Fishing Reports

Sun Aug 11 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Steven Sr. reports an action filled morning on the Viking Star. We had a lot of action today between Porgies, SeaBass, and Fluke. We definitely had some smaller fish today than we’ve been seeing however we had a lot of action with fish coming up all around the boat. The pool winner went to Martin Dowd from NYC with a 3 lb SeaBass.

Sat Aug 10 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Captain Mike Ricker reports an afternoon of great fishing. The great bite continued from this morning with nice-sized sea bass and fluke. Despite the later pick up in the wind, the crew caught loads of great fish. Our pool winner today was Bob Jimerez from Middletown, NY, with a 4.5-pound fluke.

Sat Aug 10 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Captain Mike reports an amazing day of fishing. The weather was fantastic, with clear skies and little wind. There was a steady pickup of nice-sized porgies and sea bass. There was also a tremendous and consistent fluke bite throughout the trip. Today’s pool winner was Matt Wolfe from Commack, NY, with a 6.5-pound fluke.

Thurs Aug 8 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt J.R. reports that we once again had to hide from the strong winds all afternoon on the Viking Star. However we did still manage a couple Porgies and SeaBass, as well as some short Fluke. We did have some action, just not much to keep. Overall we had some fish in the buckets despite the unfavorable weather, just not great fishing. The pool winner this afternoon went Alani Bougard from Bainbridge Island, WA with a Porgy.

Thurs Aug 8 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a very good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We started the morning anchored up off the lighthouse and had a really nice shot of large and jumbo sized Porgies for over an hour. When the strong tide started ripping we worked our way offshore, pretty much straight south to…

Wed Aug 7 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt JR reports that we hid from the strong winds all afternoon but found a few Porgies, Fluke, and Sea Bass to bend the rods. Not our best trip, but a good time was had by all. A few fish in the buckets regardless of the unfavorable weather. The pool winner was Harry Egan from Kilkenny, Ireland with a 2 lb Porgy.

Mon Aug 5 – Whale Watching

Another trip, another multispecies day  Well, we keep on finding them.  The visibility was exceptional and once we got within 5 nautical miles of  the whale grounds, we saw blows, breaches, and other activity easily.  The whales, dolphins, and pelagic birds were out there, just as they have been now for weeks.  Some feeding near the surface, others at depth, and others giving us views of breaches, flipper slapping, and associated groupings.  While we didn’t observe cooperative feeding, we did encounter  associated pairs, duos, trios, and quadruples, sometimes all at once around us.  The whales were so spread out that we weren’t able to get to all, but there’s always the next trip! The cooler sea surface temperatures and winds helped to cool us throughout our time out there. Heading home brought us back to warmer waters, and with the…

Tue Aug 6 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good trip on the Viking Starship. Porgy fishing was excellent by the lighthouse. We started out on the anchor and had mostly nice size fish. We also did some drifting. There were some Sea Bass, but they were on the smaller size. Sea Bass fishing was lively by Block Island. There…

Tues Aug 6- 1/2 Day AM

Captain JR reports an action packed morning onboard the Viking Star. Rods were bent all trip with anglers battling giant porgies and sea bass. We did find some fluke but they were all fairly small. Capt Carl reports a GREAT afternoon on the Viking Starlite. In addition to lots of Black Sea Bass and Porgies in the buckets, we had some really nice JUMBO KEEPER Flukes as well! The first prize pool winner went to Bill Lippold from Orchard Park, NY with a 7.5 lb Fluke. The second prize pool…
