Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Wed Oct 18- Night Squid Fishing

Capt Carl reports an excellent night of Squid fishing on the Viking Starlite. Lots of Jumbo Squid Tubes filled up buckets around the boat. We started catching as soon as we anchored up and the bite quickly turned non-stop! We caught them on the bottom, on the surface, and everywhere in between. We can’t wait…

Wed Oct 18 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports an okay day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. The weather today could not be any better for fishing, but unfortunately the fish bite was slow. We found that the fish were biting better on the drifts rather than on anchor so we spent most our day drifting. We had a…

Mon Oct 16- Wed Oct 18: George’s Bank Cod/East End Sea Bass

Capt JR reports an excellent trip onboard the Viking Star. Things started out a little slow, but when we found the fish it was lock and load! Big beautiful Cod and Sea bass made up a majority of the catch. However, we boated a fine catch of pollock, jumbo cunners, and a few hub cap…

Mon Oct 16 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a steady day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. Fishing today was lot better than it’s been, at no point was fishing red hot, but the bite was constant which made for a steady pick. We had some really nice quality fish today with a lot larger sizes than we have…

Sun Oct 15- Night Squid Fishing

Capt Carl reports another good night of Squid fishing. It was not as good as Saturday nights trip, but we did pick away all night. The wind was a bit stiff and it was not a calm night, but our anglers had fun catching delicious squid and also quite a few mackerel (using Sabiki rigs)….

Sun Oct 15 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a rough day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. The strong wind today made for some difficult fishing, to get out of the gusts we tucked ourselves in close to the island this morning and picked through a lot of little fish. As the day progressed and the wind eased up we got the chance to work our way offshore and found some better fishing. with better conditions, anglers were able to get themselves some larger size fish with everyone boating about a bucket of porgies each and a few SeaBass. The pool winner today went to Mr. Park from Queens with a 2.6 lb Porgy. We are fishing tomorrow at 5am. The office will open at 4am for ticket sales. Come on out there is plenty of space!

Sat Oct 14- Night Squid Fishing

Capt JR reports a great start to the 2023 fall squid run. We had immediate action all around the boat with squid coming up one and two at a time. The action stayed consistent all night with many anglers having an excellent catch of some real hammer squirts. It seemed like the guys using the…

Sat Oct 14 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports very good fishing on the Viking Starship. We headed straight offshore and found plenty out there. After a couple of anchor drops and moving around, we moved closer to the island and got in a few drifts. It was pretty much a steady pick of mixed bag fishing. There were mostly Porgy and Sea Bass with a few Cod and some Mackerel. The first place pool winner was Trevor Whyte from Manhattan, NY with a 3 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Tony Sanders from Jerico, NY with a 6 lb Cod. We are fishing tomorrow at 5am. The office will open at 4am for ticket sales. Come on out there is plenty of space!

Fri Oct 13 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We started off our morning fishing close to the island, we had a solid two drifts in the area with a lot of SeaBass action. In that shallower water we had a nice mix of SeaBass, mostly on the large size, but…
