Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Sun Aug 27 – Full Day Block Island Fluke & Sea Bass

Capt JR reports an okay trip on the Viking Starlite. It was not what we were expecting after the fruitful trip we had the day before. We returned to yesterday’s productive grounds and found there to be little to no bite. Undeterred, we continued searching far and wide but didn’t find the level of action that we were looking for. Some areas had decent life producing some keeper Fluke and Sea Bass. Others weren’t so hot. There was definitely a leftover ground swell that may have been the culprit, or maybe it was just an off day. Either way we put forth a solid effort. The first place pool winner was Michael Antal from West Islip, NY with a Fluke. The second place pool winner was Stephen Romanello from Calverton, NY with a Sea Bass. No weights were reported from…

Sun Aug 27 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports excellent fishing on the Viking Starship. We anchored up for 2 1/2 hours by the lighthouse and had constant Porgy action. It was mixed size fish with a lot of double headers. Once we loaded up we headed close to Block Island and the Sea Bass bit well. We had more keepers…

Sun Aug 27 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Mike reports that fishing was a little slow on the Viking Star this morning. We still managed a mix as of Porgies, Sea Bass and a couple of keeper Fluke! The first place pool winner was John Mueller from Massapequa, NY with a 4 lb Fluke. The second place pool winner was Tom Miller…

Sat Aug 26 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Mike reports another slow start to the afternoon on the Viking Star, but we found ourselves in a steady pick. With a lot of families aboard today most kids were enjoying themselves catching plenty of fish! Overall a nice afternoon mixed bag trip with Porgy, Seabass, and a few Fluke. Ignacio Castillo had the pool this afternoon with a 3.9 lb Fluke.

Sat Aug 26 – Full Day Block Island Fluke & Sea Bass

Capt J.R. reports a little bit of a tough start to our journey this morning on the Viking Starlite. A large leftover swell seemed like it scattered the fish from our recent hot spots. However, after some searching around we found some real quality catching! The fluke bite turned on and we landed some real…

Sat Aug 26 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports some really good fishing today on the Viking Starship despite conditions from a large ground swell. We started our morning anchored up down the beach and had an excellent pick of mixed sized Porgies. We then worked our way back towards the Lighthouse and had a few drifts with a lot of…

Sat Aug 26: 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Mike reports a slow start to the trip on the Viking Star. Fishing got better after the first drift and continued on for a steady picking until the end. Excellent mixed bag day: jumbo Porgies, SeaBass and keeper Fluke. The pool winner this morning went to Vero Lambert from NYC, NY with a 5.3…

Thurs Aug 24 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Carl reports another EXCELLENT 1/2 day of fishing. All afternoon the rods were bending and the kids were all smiling and having fun, and when kids have fun, so do the parents! We caught a bunch of Giant porgies, Black Sea Bass, and a couple KEEPER Fluke. Everyone went home with nice bags of…

Thurs Aug 24 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports an excellent day of porgy fishing today on the Viking Starship. We started our morning around the Lighthouse and had nonstop action with some big sized fish. Today we had mostly large size fish on the boat, nothing too jumbo, but definitely a steady pick of large sized Scup. We didn’t see…

Wed Aug 23 – Whale Watching

Another multi-species day!   It was a beautiful day on the water, with unlimited visibility, and calm seas.  We had reports of dolphins and whales near Montauk and found both within a short time after passing Montauk Point Lighthouse. Groups of Inshore bottlenose dolphins were spread out around us, perhaps a total of 45 individuals…
