Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Sat Aug 5 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports an excellent day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. First thing this morning we set up for a drift around 5:30am and had a solid 4-hour drift with non-stop Porgy action. It was a mixed size anywhere from medium to jumbo fish, with a lot of larges. Around 10 o’clock we worked our way to the SeaBass grounds and had some solid drops with some decent size fish including a lot of Mackerell and some keeper Fluke. Overall, a very good day of fishing today. The pool winner on the boat today was Jose Martinez from the Bronx with a 2 1/2 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner went to Chester Winfield from Scarsdale, NY with 4 1/2 lb Fluke.

Fri Aug 4 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports very good fishing today on the Viking Starship. We fell into a great pick of Porgies around the Lighthouse, with large and jumbo sized fish biting their heads off. We spent most of day around their getting our limit of fish. In the last hour we went off to try fishing one our SeaBass wrecks, but the fishing was very slow and there were little to no bites. The pool winner today would like to remain anonymous, but had himself a jumbo 3 lb Porgy.  We are definitely sailing again tomorrow (Saturday, August 5th) at 5 am on our Montauk Lighthouse Porgies & SeaBass.

Wed Aug 2 – Whale Watching

Our streak continues! With temperatures in the 70’s, calm seas, and absolutely unlimited visibility, we could not have asked for better conditions to search for cetaceans on our ninth trip of the season. Reports of whales brought us west of Block Island where spouts were immediately spotted. The first belonged to two humpback whales, surfacing,…

Thur Aug 3 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt J.R. reports another enjoyable afternoon onboard the Viking Star. We found lots of sea bass and porgies bending rods all around the boat. The fluke bite was a little off, but we did boat some keepers. Everyone has plenty of fish for dinner! The first place pool winner went to Ellen Bolin from Sag…

Thur Aug 3 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing on the Viking Starship. We started off this morning making some drifts around the Lighthouse and had non-stop Porgy action for a few hours, with some nice size fish with mostly larges. When the full moon tide flooded in we decided to make our way to the east in search of some SeaBass, we made a few drifts and mostly had to pick through small fish to get our limit, but did have a handful of keeper Fluke and Blue fish. We then worked our way back to where we started the day and had one nice 2 hour drift to finish off the day with our limit of Porgies. The first place pool winner went to Erik Flores from New York with a 2.8 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner went…
