Sun Sept 5 – 3/4 Day Bottom Fishing Special
Capt Dave G reports a very good day of fishing aboard the Viking Starlite for the 3/4 Day Bottom Fishing Special. The bite started a bit slowly in the morning but improved as the trip went on. By the end of the trip there doubleheaders flying over the rails all around the boat. We ended up with a nice catch of big Sea Bass, Porgies and even a couple short Fluke which were thrown back unharmed. There was no pool on the boat for the trip. This was the last day for the 3/4 Day trip. Thanks for joining us this season! We will be continuing the 1/2 Day Fishing trip through Columbus Day on the Viking Star. Lookout for the Blackfish and SeaBass trips coming in October on the Viking Starlite.
Sun Sept 5 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Capt Dave reports good fishing on the Viking Starship. We had tougher conditions today with the wind, so we drifted to the east between the lighthouse and Block Island. It was a slow steady pick of nicer size Porgies and plenty of SeaBass. We did have to pick through smaller sized Porgies to get to the bigger ones. There was also had a nice catch of Fluke and about a 1/2 dozen Cod. The first place pool winner was Rafael Ramirez from Manhattan, NY with a 2 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Glenn Arguedo from Beltville, MD with a 5.2 Fluke.
Sat Sept 4 – Whale Watching
What a great day to be on the water! The weather was absolutely gorgeous with unlimited visibility and calm seas. We spent the first hour cruising near shore in search of whales. Soon, a blow was spotted by one of our volunteers and we observed a humpback whale casually swimming and diving in approximately 50 feet of water. Then things got exciting with a surprise breach in full view of passengers watching from the bow. Shoals of bunker (menhaden) were visible at the surface in about 32 feet of water and the whale moved into shallower water to feed. We knew something extraordinary was about to happen when the fish began leaping from the water followed immediately by the lunge-feeding humpback. Sat Sept 4- 3/4 Day Fishing
Capt Steven Sr reports an excellent day of fishing. Every drift we made we caught a bounty. We had a couple Fluke along with tons of Seabass and Porgies like we’ve never seen before.
Sat Sept 4 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies and Seabass
Capt. Dave reports a good trip where we started off in deep waters a little East. We were between Montauk and Block Island where we had a slow steady pick of medium to large Porgies and some small Seabass. There were a few nice size Seabass in the mix. The pool winner was Rolando Correa with a 2.1 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was David Park from Flushing, NY, with a 3.5 lb Seabass.
Sat Sept 4- 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt. JR reports a good pick of sea bass and porgies all morning. Lots of action all around the boat. We were also happy to see a few keeper fluke come over the rail as well. The pool winner was Daniel Russell from NY,NY with a 4 lb Fluke.
Fri Sept 3 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Pool Winner: Katelyn Bassolino from Westfield, NJ with a 3 lb SeaBass.

Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starship. We started out with windy conditions, so we anchored and had really good action with mostly medium to large Porgies and smaller SeaBass. When it got nicer we started drifting to the east and found a better sized Porgies and SeaBass. The drift was a bit fast from the wind, but there were better quality fish. The pool winner was Erik Flores from Amityville, NY with a 2.2 lb Porgy.
