Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Mon Nov 24 – Squid Fishing

Captain Carl reports a slower night on the Squid grounds. The water was still dirty after 15 hours of hard NW wind. We picked away slowly and some anglers managed over 40 pieces of good size. We marked them good and saw them in our lights, but the bite was just off. Still plenty around. We will be back at it Saturday night and Sunday night! Please note that there will be a time change… we will sail at 5:30PM and return at Midnight.

Mon Nov 24 – Montauk Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Captain Dave reports a good day of fishing despite the weather conditions. Early in the trip we anchored up where we have been catching Sea Bass one the last couple of days and though it started as a slow pick with fish on the smaller side things definitely improved as a the day went on….

Sun Nov 23 – Montauk Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a great day on the Viking Starship. Our day started a bit slowly near the island, where we didn’t find anything we could keep. Then we moved offshore to have a look around, where we had better luck and were able to catch good-sized of Porgies. We also had pretty good-sized of…

Sun Nov 23 – Blackfish & Sea Bass

Captain JR reports a so-so day on the Viking Star. We worked all around Block Island today and found some mixed sized Sea Bass pretty much everywhere we went. We also found a few drops with some STUD Blackfish on them, which we gladly welcomed aboard. It wasn’t a bail job, but everyone ended up…

Sat Nov 22 – Coxes Ledge Special

Capt JR reports a great day onboard the Viking Star. Coxes Ledge was very good to us providing an excellent fall bounty of big Sea Bass, Porgies, Ling, Whiting, and Cunners. Everyone caught very well and had a gorgeous catch. For the Blackfishing portion of the day we tried a new zone and had more…

Sat Nov 22 – Montauk Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports an okay day on the Viking Starship. There were a lot of Sea Bass and fewer Porgies than we have been seeing. It was a slow steady pick all day. Everyone had a couple of keeper Sea Bass and a handful of Porgies. The pool winner was Cornell from the Bronx with…

Fri Nov 21 – Squid Fishing

Capt Carl reports an OK night on the squid grounds. Fishing was steady with some good flurries, but there were also some lulls in the action. Those who were dialed in managed 20-30lbs of Giant delicious squid, and those who needed guidance from First Mate Joey the Squid Whiz got the hang of it by…

Fri Nov 21 – Montauk Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a decent day on the Viking Starship. We saw more Sea Bass again with some Porgies in the mix. Definitely less Porgies than yesterday. There were some Bonita and a bunch of throwback Cod. The first place pool winner was Raymond R. from NJ with a 3.3 lb Porgy. The edible pool…

Thurs Nov 20 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a very good day of fishing on the Viking Starship. We went back to the hot spot from yesterday and had much better Porgy fishing than we have been seeing. It was a slow steady pick of Porgies and Sea Bass and we spent most of the morning on one drop. We…

Thurs Nov 20 – Blackfish & Sea Bass

Capt JR reports a bit of a grind on the Viking Star today. The Sea Bass fishing was a decent pick all morning. Big ones, medium ones, little ones everywhere we went. They added up and everyone ended up ok. The Blackfish portion was also a pick with the sharper fisherman getting some nice ones….
