Montauk

Thurs June 25 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports excellent Porgy fishing at the lighthouse. We had mostly Large and Jumbo Scup along with some Bluefish and a couple of keeper Striped Bass. There was also a 40 lb Striped Bass that was released unharmed! SeaBass fishing was a bit slow, but everyone pretty much had their limit. Again there was a lot of small SeaBass that had to be picked thru. The pool winner was Jang Sung Choi from Flushing, NY with a 3 lb Porgy.

Wed June 24- Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass

Captain Dave reports a great day of fishing,  seeing really excellent Porgy fishing . Sea Bass fishing was a little slower than we have seen but the ones we did catch were a decent size. Today’s pool was won by Jeff Greenbaum of Yonkers with a 3.8 Pound Porgy. The edible pool was taken by Steve Schwartz with a nice 7lb Bluefish .

Tue June 23 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies & SeaBass

Capt Dave reports an excellent morning on the Viking Starship. Our first drift made the day! We had great mixed bag fishing by the lighthouse with most catching a good part of their limits. We headed down the beach after that and found some more quality Porgies. We then headed to the offshore wreck to try out SeaBass fishing for the first time this season and found a ton of small SeaBass. There were keepers in the mix, but we had to pick thru them. We also had some Porgies and Bluefish. The last drop of the day was a slow pick of SeaBass. We are happy to be SeaBass fishing again and looking forward to the fishing getting better and better. The pool winner was Donald Hyde from the Bronx with a 3 lb Porgy.

Sun June 21 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Dave G reports a decent afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We caught plenty of Fluke, unfortunately this early on the season many were short sized. We did have a couple keepers along with a nice catch of Scup. We also caught some big Black Sea Bass, which were released unharmed. Sea bass opens for the season on Tuesday. The first place pool winner was Denise Campanelli from Merrick, Long Island with a 4.25 lb Fluke. The second place pool winner was Hunter Forte from Malverne, Long Island with a 4.15 lb Fluke.

Sun June 21 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies

Capt Dave reports excellent fishing aboard the Viking Starship. It took a bit to get going but it was worth the wait! We had very very good Porgy fishing with a nice quality size. We also had some Bluefish and throw back SeaBass. Fortunately Black Sea Bass will open this Tuesday – June 23rd!! The pool winner was Vinroy Jarrett with a 3.3 lb Porgy.

Sun June 21 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Dave G reports an okay morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. The bite started well with a mixed bag of Fluke, Porgies, Bluefish, Striped Bass and some beautiful Black Sea Bass that were returned to the ocean unharmed. The second part of the trip was a bit slower. The pool winner was Stephen McDonagh from Yonkers, NY with a 4.1 lb Fluke. The edible pool winner was Joe Toto from Cresshill, NJ with a 5.3 lb Bluefish.

Sat June 20 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Derek reports we stayed on the north side for the afternoon because of the wind and tide. Fishing definitely was not as active as this morning, but we still had action with small Fluke, Porgies and some Sea Bass. We ground it out and were able to get some keeper Fluke out of it though. Pool winners were Nicolette Kane from New York City with a 4.5 lb Fluke and in second was Oliver Brooks from Brooklyn, NY with a 4 lb Fluke.

Sat June 20 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Captain Derek reports that the trip started off decent with some short fluke, Bluefish and short Striped Bass. We were able to get a keeper out of it with some Scup and nice Sea bass (that finally opens Tuesday.) We made a move a little down the beach and picked away on some nice size Porgies and more short Fluke. Finally near the end of the trip we got a nice flurry of keeper fluke, which was great to see especially with the water warming up. First place pool was Ana Teixeira from East Meadow, Ny with a 5.5 lb Fluke. Second place was Jose from South Setauket, NY with a Bluefish weighing in around 6 pounds. Like Comment

Fri June 19 – Striped Bass

Capt Steven Jr reports great fishing to start the trip on the jigs with Bass and Blues and some jumbo Scup flying over the rails! Most of the Bass were outside of the new slot size limit, but about half the boat got a keeper Bass and limits of Blues for almost everyone. After the sunset we switched over to eels and the action shut right down. We only managed a couple more fish for the night. We did not have a pool.

Fri June 19 – Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies

Capt Dave reports an excellent day on the Viking Starship. We started out anchoring up west of the lighthouse. Fishing was great and it made the day! On the way back we made a stop by the lighthouse. It was a bit slow, but the quality was there with really good size Porgies. The pool winner was Nate Marner from Roslyn, NY with a 2.81 lb Porgy.
