Wed Jan 15 – Winter Cod – Viking Fivestar

COD!!!!! Capt Steven Jr reports a slammer day with the James Joseph crew and they put a beating on the Cod! All nice quality health green fish up to the mid teens and a couple pollock popped up too. We ended up a little shy of the boat limit but everyone had a load of fillets to go home with. The cod are here NOW! Don’t hesitate to call and get on a trip. We have limited spots on our up coming open boat trips and we have some open dates for charters. We also have the Viking Star sailing so give us a call and get in on action before it’s too late. Wed Jan 15 – Winter Cod – Viking Star

Capt Steven Sr reports an Outstanding Day on the Viking Star with fish on every drop! There were keepers and shorts all day long. The mates were busy filleting Cod on the way in and plenty of anglers went home without having them cleaned. Mavros “the cook” stepped outside at the right time. He dropped down and immediately had double header 8 lb Cod. After that he dropped right down and brought up another double header 8lber and a monster 28 1/2 Cod! In the end he had 7 Cod on 4 drifts. There was a lot more bait in the area and the Cod were green. We also had a bunch of Bergalls and some Mackerel. The first place pool winner was Karl Nilsen from Sag Harbor, NY with 16.5 Cod. Tue Jan 14 – Winter Cod – Viking Star

Capt Steven Jr reports a decent day seeing Cod everywhere we went, but not in any big numbers. We picked away for most of the morning with a mix of keepers and shorts. Mid day things slowed down a bit then we picked a few more fish at the end of the day. Chris Montone was high hook with 7 keepers. The first place pool went to Michele Fronda from Brooklyn, NY with a 9 lb Cod and second place went to Frank Daskalakis from Brooklyn, NY with a 7 lb Cod.

Tue Jan 14 -Schedule Update

Viking Cod Early Report and Update We spoke to Captain Steven Jr on the Viking Star who is out today and they were picking away at some Cod, with around 20 keepers and some short action by 9am. They still have plenty of time out there to keep looking for the mother load, so check out the full report this afternoon! We are happy to see some fish around! We are DEFINITELY sailing again tomorrow, Wednesday Jan 15 on the Viking Star at 4AM so you can either book now by calling the office at (631) 668-5700 or online at vikingfleet.com. Mon Jan 13 – Schedule Update

Great Weather for Sailing Tues Jan 14 and Wed Jan 15 We are definitely sailing! Captains and crew are EAGER to get back fishing! Last trip out anglers averaged 7 keeper Cod per man and a mess of Cunner as well. The weather looks great and we have scheduled 3 trips for this Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday Block Island Winter Cod on the Viking Star leaves 4AM. Wednesday’s Block Island Winter Cod is sold out on the Viking Fivestar but there’s still room on the Viking Star leaving at 4AM. Call the office 631-668-5700 or book online at vikingfleet.com to get on board these trips. The office will open both mornings at 3 AM for last minute tickets. Don’t miss this weather window! Sat Jan 11 – Schedule Update

Attention Viking Anglers! All trips are CANCELLED for Sunday Jan 12th. Unfortunately, the weather for the weekend doesn’t look good at all, but we are anxious to get back out there after the Viking Fivestar’s great trip this past Monday. This upcoming Monday’s forecast looks OK, but we want to give the ocean an extra day to lay down and smooth out, so right now we are looking to get back out there for Tuesday, Jan 14th! We will be sailing on the Viking Star at 4AM. Reservations are highly recommended so that we will know if we have enough people to sail. Mon Jan 6 – Winter Cod Private Charter – Viking Fivestar

Capt Steven Jr reports that we put together a great day of Cod fishing around Block yesterday. We were able to pick a few fish everywhere we went and by the end of the day we ended up with 35 Cod for the 5 man group! We had a few short Cod and some big Cunner in the mix as well, but not much other by catch. There are definitely more Cod showing up and it’s looking good for the future. Now we just need the weather to cooperate so we can get out! We have open boat trips sailing every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday on the Viking Star and Viking Fivestar and private charter openings on the Fivestar.
