Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Sun Dec 1 – Block Island Cod and Sea Bass – Viking Fivestar

Capt Steven Jr reports that we had a picky but very productive day on the Viking Fivestar with a nice improvement in the Cod and some XL Blackfish as an added bonus. We never had crazy action but everyone ended up with their limit of Sea Bass, a couple Cod each and a few guys managed a limit of Blackfish. The Cod were healthy green fish and a few bigger ones were loaded up with roe. Hoping this is the beginning of a new body of fish moving in the the area. We also had some Scup, Mackerel and Pollock in the mix. We are looking forward to getting back out and doing some searching around for the Cod especially since the dogfish have continued to thin out in deeper water. Mark Fisher had his Tog limit with the biggest…

Sun Dec 1 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing with a light crowd today on the Viking Starship. When we got to Block Island we had a lot of smaller fish than we have had the last few weeks so we moved a little farther East. There we found decent size Porgies, good sized Sea Bass and some nice Cod. The rain held off until this afternoon on the way back to Montauk which was nice. Weather predicted for tomorrow has cancelled our trip. Pool winner today was Roy Brown of the Bronx with a 2.2 pound Porgy. Jim Hong Dong of the Queens NY was high hook in the Cod category with 4 nice Cod the largest a little over 14 pounds.

Capt Dave G reported a good day of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We started out working the Cod grounds. We had a steady pick for the first part of the morning with mostly market size Cod. Then we moved to deeper water and caught nice Sea Bass, although they were not the jumbos that were here before the storm. We also ended up with a load of nice size Porgies. Then we finished up with some more Cod which were mostly bigger than in the morning. All in all it was a good trip. The first place Cod pool winner was Menios from Astoria, NY with a 15.5 lb Cod. The SeaBass pool winner was Chris Zilno from Morrisville, Pa with a 4.25 pounder. This trip is cancelled for tomorrow. We will be sailing on the 5am – Porgy…

We will be sailing tomorrow Sunday, Dec 1st at 5am for the Porgy & SeaBass trip. We also have a few spots available on the Viking Fivestar trip at 5am for Cod & SeaBass. Mon Nov 25 – Block Island Cod/SeaBass/Blackfish – Viking Fivestar

Capt Steven Jr reports an excellent day even with the rough conditions early in the morning. We started inshore to hide from the breeze and by mid day we had our limit of Blackfish with a few nice ones in the 8 lb range. From there we went off SeaBassing and had steady action and managed limits for everyone before we called it a day.

Tue Nov 26 – 30 to 50 Mile Wreck Trip

Capt Steven Jr reports another great day of fishing the wrecks with plenty of big SeaBass all around on the Viking Fivestar! The first couple of drops were a pick of big SeaBass, but the last drop made the day with lots of double headers! Only a couple of Cod today but Mark found a nice one at the end of the day. We are looking to add a couple wreck trips in December so keep an eye on the website for schedule updates in December. vikingfleet.com (631)668-5700

Mon Nov 25th- Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass

Captain Dave reports another excellent day of fishing on the the Viking Starship. Anglers brought tons of Porgies and Sea Bass over the rail, everyone limiting out.  Anglers also caught some Bluefish and some nice Cod.  Danny Ko of Long Island City NY won the pool with a 2.8 pound Scup, a lot of tight competition in this category, with plenty of large Porgies.  Kevin Huang won the edible pool with a 16 pound Cod.  Nice work gentlemen.  The weather is supposed to be even nicer tomorrow high around 55 degrees with light winds.  Plenty of time to get in a good fishing trip before the holiday.  We sail at 5:00 AM.  Hope to see you on board.
