Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies & Knothead SeaBass Captain Dave reports a fine day of fishing with plenty of Porgies in the morning around the lighthouse on the Viking Starship. The wind made it a little difficult but we still landed plenty of Porgies and Sea Bass. We did see more mixed sizes than yesterday when almost all the Porgies were Jumbo. Capt. Dave reports that we also landed plenty of keeper Fluke today also, with the largest (not in the pool) weighing in at over 7 lbs being caught by Jeff Greenbaum. Today’s Porgy pool was taken by Mark Cho from NYC with a Jumbo 4lb Porgy.

1/2 Day Fishing – AM Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Stariper. We had a nice catch of fluke, sea bass and porgies and even a couple of bluefish. The pool winner was from the group fishing from Custom Eng. New York with a 4.25lb Sea Bass

Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass Capt Dave reports excellent fishing on the Viking Starship. We had really good fishing at the lighthouse with good conditions and really big fish. We went to the Sea Bass grounds and the fishing was a bit off with smaller fish, but there were some jumbos mixed in. We also had a bunch of Fluke up to 8 lbs. The pool winner was Harold Bussey from Brooklyn, NY with a 2.5 lb Porgy.
Mon Sept 3
1/2 Day Fishing – PM Capt Jerry reports good action on the Viking Star this afternoon. We started out with a quick drift then once it slowed down we had a lot of action with Porgies and a few Sea Bass. Fluke fishing was slower than usual. The pool winner was Cathy Gignorelli from Ronkonkoma, NY with a 4.7 lb Fluke.

Sun Sept 2 2 whales, 2 different species! We had perfect conditions, unlimited visibility, 2 feet seas, and clear skies. We headed towards whales that had been seen earlier, but saw none. We headed through the areas where we had been seeing whales all summer and saw none, unfortunately. We started to turn towards Montauk and a Minke whale popped up right in front of us. It surfaced a bunch of times and allowed many people to view it, albeit briefly. We continued back towards Montauk and at 6:30, we saw the high billowing blow of a larger whale. We found a 1.5-2-year old Humpback that we had seen on 8/8/18 (nearly 1 month earlier and about 5 nautical miles SSW), Scylla’s 2016 calf. Montauk Jumbo Lighthouse Porgies & Knothead SeaBass – Happy Labor Day!! Capt Dave reports a great day on the Viking Starship. We had good action at the lighthouse with Porgies, then we moved on to the Sea Bass grounds and had our fill. The pool winner was DJ Willy from North Philadelphia with a 3 1/4 lb Porgy. ***Reminder that the Fish Bag Limits have increased on Porgies & Sea Bass!! 45 – Porgies at 9″ and 7 – Sea Bass at 15″

AM Half Day Fishing Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We ended up with a mixed bag of keeper fluke sea bass and jumbo porgies. The first place pool winner was Ryan Anderson of Southampton, NY with a 6.5lb fluke.

Half Day Fishing AM Captain Jerry reports a fun morning of fishing today aboard the Viking Star. We had steady action with rods bending all day and had a nice catch with lots of porgies, some nice sized sea bass and fluke. Today’s first place pool winner was Martin Samson of Port Washington with a nice 7.5lb fluke and in second place was Vanessa Baier of Brooklyn with a 5.5lb fluke.

1/2 Day Fishing – PM Capt Joe reports good fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had all the usual suspects of Fluke, Sea Bass and Porgies. The pool winner was Kris Lagrange from Bayshore, NY with a 4.7 lb Fluke
