1/2 Day Fishing – AM Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing today aboard the Viking Star. We had a mixed bag of keeper fluke, sea bass, porgies and cocktail blues. The first place pool winner was John Wilkinson from Houston, TX with a 5.3 lb Fluke. The edible pool winner was Joe Khamis from Westchester, NY with a 4.8 lb Sea Bass

Wed Aug 29 Whales throughout the day! We had  another spectacular day.  We began the trip by surveying an area SW of Montauk where whales have been consistently spotted.  The day started slowly until we spotted several huge bait balls of small fish at the surface. We immediately spotted several Minke Whales. Typically for Minkes they would briefly surface than disappear. A good sized Hammerhead Shark cruised within an arms length of the boat to the excitement of some of our younger passengers.  We saw a few blows in the area and soon a large Fin Whale crossed directly in front of our bow and treated us to a thrilling view.  The activity picked up as several Humpbacks of various ages were also feeding in the area and we spent considerable time with them. Half Day Fishing PM Captain Joey D reports a slow afternoon aboard the Viking Star. We had a strong east wind which made it very tough fishing.

Montauk Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Captain Dave reports an okay day of fishing today aboard the Viking Starship. We had some unfavorable weather conditions today, but we did manage a decent catch of porgies by the lighthouse. Despite the windy weather and fast drift, we tried for a some sea bass and most people ended up with their limit of nice size fish. We also had some blues in the mix. The first place pool winner was O’Neil Gooden of Queens with a 3.11lb porgy and in second place was George Stanislaus of Brooklyn with a nice 4.4lb sea bass. Starting tomorrow, Sept 1st, the porgy and sea bass regulations will change to 45 porgies at 10 inches and 7 sea bass at 15 inches.

Half Day Fishing AM Captain Joey D reports a nice morning aboard the Viking Star. Despite the breezy conditions, we were able to catch a couple keepers. Today’s first place pool winner was John Horowitz of Brooklyn with a nice 6.5lb fluke.

PM Half Day Fishing Trip Capt Dave G reports a very good afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had big sea bass, jumbo porgies and beautiful keeper fluke. The pool winner was Patrick Wallace from Sag Harbor New York with a 7.6 lb fluke.
