Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Saturday Feb 1

Local Cod Captain Carl is happy to report a nice day of winter cod fishing! Winds were light and variable all day, seas were calm, temperature was warm (for February) and fishing was decent too. We had a few short cod and some ling come up in the dark, then once the sun came up we saw a couple of steady drifts with some keeper cods and more ling. We picked away for a little bit but then things went slow, so we searched around some different areas and found a shot of cod here and a shot of cod there. In the afternoon the bite picked up quite a bit for a little while and we saw some nicer size cod as well as quite a few pollack. Jigs and bait both produced today and as always, some fishermen…

Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Anthony reports tremendous fishing today despite the nautical conditions. All it took was one anchor drop and coolers were busting with giant scup and limits of sea bass. There was no pool today, but the largest porgy was an easy 4 lbs. We had sea bass to 5lbs blues to 7lbs and red hake to 3lbs. Captain Dave will be back on tomorrow and the wind is supposed to lie down beautifully for your fishing comfort.

Viking FiveStar Weekend Report Sunday Nov 17 Rusty Belly for Blackfish and Sea Bass We returned late yesterday from a PHENOMENAL rusty belly trip! We started of black fishing on a couple wrecks which produced only a couple fish but they were all quality sized fish, the biggest being 11.5 lbs. our third drop started as a pick they turned into an all out bail job! Also had a bunch of quality fish with a few over 8 lbs popping up. After everyone loaded up with togs we headed offshore and had another EXCELLENT sea bass bite. Lots of double headers all around and all large to XL sized. We did see a couple cod come up on each drop but the sea bass dint leave you any time to leave a clam on the bottom. Also had a mess…

Viking FiveStar Tuna We returned yesterday late afternoon from another good trip offshore. The first night was slow with mostly shark bites throughout the night. We landed 1 nice yellow fin in the early morning. The next day on troll we picked up a few albacore and couple mahi. The second night was what made the trip- The first half of the night we battled with more sharks and lost a couple fish close to the boat. In the early morning they started to chew. We had them eating the chum on the surface swimming around the boat and started throwing bait to them. For an hour and a half it was lock and load fishing. All the fish were good sized in the 60-80 lb range. After that it slowed up for us and we started to troll our…

Viking Five Star Tuna Charter We got back out to the edge for a 2 day trip last weekend with a group of local commercial fishermen. It was not a blood bath but still a good trip to send all the guys home with  a handful of yellow fin a few mahi and a mess of northern groupers. We also had a pup sword that we released and another better sword that we pulled the hook on. It was the first trip where we started to see the yellows on the night bite which was nice to see finally. Over all a good trip with a good group of guys ans a lot of laughs. Special thanks to David Tuma from the f/v Kimberly for putting the trip together. We have a few more open boat tuna trips coming up in…
