Sunday July 7
Sunset Stripers
Captain Ant reports a solid Sunday Sunset Striper 4 hour jigging trip. Once again the fish were rolling everywhere but very difficult to catch. The fluke however were chewing their heads off as we probably had about 20 caught yielding 5 keepers to 6lbs…on 8oz diamond jigs on a 3.7 knot drift. We had a few scup as well and of course monster Sea Bass, returned for only another 2 days of freedom!!!
We did manage to nail a dozen Stripers, but again scratching and clawing and great effort by our fisherman, they worked hard all trip!! Fish ranged between 14″ to 24 pounds. Pool winners were:Joe Veltri Middle Island, NY with a 18lber Second Place Mr Robert Mitchell from Elmont, NY with a 13lb 9oz
Half Day Fluke AM
Captain Anthony reports a tough day fishing today due to the conditions. A lot of shorts were caught but only a few keepers. The pool winner was Claudia Kusanovic from Montauk with a 4lb 6oz fluke.
Full Day Montauk Porgies
Captain Dave reports a good day of fishing in the morning. In the afternoon the tide and wind grew which made fishing tougher and a little bit slower. Over all there were smaller fish today in the mix. There were a handful of keeper fluke as well. The pool winner was Chris Poyiatzis from Astoria, NY with a 3 1/2lb porgy. The pool winner for the biggest edible fish was Antoine Paige from College Point, NY with a 3 1/2lb Fluke.
Half Day Fluke PM
Fishing was picky until we started picking at the fish. Although it was mostly shorts we did put together a nice shot of keepers. A few beautiful knothead seabass did come over the rail, all returned to the sea safely. The pool winner was Rob Illiano from Port Jefferson who had a 4lb 1oz fluke.
