Night Striped Bass Block Island Behemoth
Capt Ant reports our Special Behemoth trip was just that, if you consider whacking huge moo cow linesiders for 3 solid hours special. After a slow couple of drifts the tide picked up and we began to slay the beasts. Averaged 7 jumbos a drift for 4 drifts in a row. George Jehn had 5 fish to 40lbs orl. Chris Luke had 3 to 39.4lbs, Steve bassman Bento nailed 3 to 36lbs. Average size was 30lbs and many had their limit. But the Behemoth of the trip goes to Mike Dove from NY NY with a 47.6lb bass and in second place to Jack Miov of East Port NY 40.2lb bass.
Dave Duffy Ultimate Fluke and Cod trip
Capt Steven Sr reports an okay trip after the Ultimate Fluke and Cod trip turned into a Striped Bass/Fluke/Sea Bass mixed bag due to unfishable offshore conditions.
Faced with extremely rough conditions for Day One but an improving forecast for Day Two, we headed out for the overnight steam and stopped at Block Island, and were rewarded with a striped bass bonanza! Approximately 35 keepers were landed that averaged well over 30 pounds each! The striped bass pool ended up in a tie between Efren Bautista and Lou Trippi, each of whom boated a 44 pound whopper.
After finishing our overnight trip to Martha’s Vineyard, on Day One the fluke were uncooperative, but we found a good sea bass bite on the north side of the island, and we filled the coolers with biscuits, porgies and some fluke. Then the Day 2 forecast came in and instead of an improvement we were faced with high winds, rough seas and unfishable conditions. So we headed back inshore for Day Two, where we caught plenty of keeper fluke, sea bass and more striped bass. Pool winners were Ray Davis with a 9 lb fluke, Tony Lopez with a 5 lb sea bass, John Dempsey for largest edible with an 18 lb bluefish and Mike McGregor with a 41 lb striped bass cow.
Capt Steven Sr, Capt Dave, Jesse, Dylan and Suzanne want to thank all the guys who made the trip and handled the rough conditions.
