Tues Aug 8

Montauk Jumbo Summer Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a steady day of fishing aboard the Viking Starship today. We started off the morning trying to hide from the weather but we found a nice spot and anchored up.  We had a good pick of smaller porgies here. There was lots of action here and we had lots of double headers.  We went looking for sea bass then and found a good amount of them too. On our last drop we had a mix of poriges, sea bass, trigger fish and mackerel. All in all it was a very good day of fishing! The pool winner was Dennis Edwards from Teaneck NJ with a 2.5lb porgy.

Full Moon Striped Bass Capt Carl reports much improved fishing on our Full Moon special trip tonight on the Viking Starship. It wasn’t the typical kind of Full Moon trip that we have been accustomed to, but after 2 slow weeks of tough fishing, it was a welcome site to have steady action throughout the night catching 0-3 fish per drift and a mix of sizes ranging from shorts to over 40 lbs! We picked away until the end and had half a boat limit of Striped Bass. Travis Letson from Orlando, FL took the pool with a 41 pound beauty!!

Whale Watching 20 Humpbacks!! 100 Bottlenose Dolphins…… Our streak of finding whales continues. The first 8 whales were feeding on sand eels. The last 12 were feeding on bunker. Single whales and 4 mom/calf pairs were seen. Oh, and loads of bottlenose dolphins too. Breaching, tail throws, flipper drops, and tail kicks happened often. It was an amazing day with non-stop whales for over 4 hours.
