7/29-7/31 John Viol Codfest
Capt Steven Sr reports an all out phenomenal offshore trip from the beginning to the end. We started on the Cod Grounds and shortly found quality Cod in the 7 to 12 lb class with a lot of gaffers. We quickly found a short 39″ Halibut that we released unharmed. At 10AM Donna Ligouri hooked up with something a lot larger than a Cod. With cooperation everyone gave Donna room to work, and after several dives to the bottom and 45 minutes later, a very large Halibut appeared and it was the largest Halibut the Viking Fleet has ever landed! The rest of the day we saw a medium pick of Cod and Haddock until nightfall. We believe we had more Halibut on, but we didn’t land them. On Day 2 we went looking for large Fluke and with big success we found Trophy Fluke up to 12.6 lbs. Again Donna Ligouri had the biggest fish. She also just missed the Cod pool. She was on fire! That a boy, Lady!! The pool winner for the Largest Fluke and Larges Edible (Halibut) was Donna Ligouri from West Babylon, NY with a 12.6 lb Fluke and a 115.7 lb Halibut. The Largest Cod pool winner with a 17.3 lb Cod was Tom Schilling from North Bellmore, NY.
