Wed July 24 – George’s Bank Haddock/Cod – Nantucket Fluke – Viking Star

George’s Bank Haddock/Cod – Nantucket Fluke – Sun July 21st to Tue July 23

Capt Steven Sr reports a very good trip on the Viking Star to George’s Bank and Nantucket for Cod, Haddock and Fluke. We started Day One on George’s Bank with wind against tide and poor drifting conditions. We picked away with small Cod and Haddock, and had to fight our way through the dogfish, and there were lots of them! Later in the morning as the tide turned, the drifting conditions improved and we caught plenty of Cod and Haddock. The guys who worked diamond jigs did the best, avoiding the dogfish and filling their coolers with plenty of market size Cod, Haddock and even a few Pollock. The guys who stayed with the bait had a lot more dogfish than keepers. On Day Two we fished Nantucket. Again, the bite started slowly as we waited for the drift. Once again our patience was rewarded and the big Fluke started to bite! We had several drifts with almost everyone on the boat catching keeper Fluke. We ended up with a nice load of fish, and most of the Fluke that were caught were between 6 and 8 lbs.
