Tue May 31 to Fri June 3 – Abyss Trip

Capt Steven Sr reports a successful Abyss trip on the Viking Star. We started out Tuesday afternoon fishing Montauk for Fluke and Blues working our way to Block Island. We had a handful of Fluke up to 6 lbs and no Bluefish. We wrapped up fluking and continued to the Tile grounds and ran into an easterly squall, so we changed course to avoid the bad weather and headed to the Fluke grounds for our first day of fishing. Day one saw beautiful weather and we picked away at the Fluke all day. It was a slow grind, but we saw Fluke on every drift. We had good results with limits and fish up to 10.2 lbs. On day two we hit the Tile grounds and worked at it all day. Some drifts were better than others. We came across 25 Barrelfish with Golden Tile mixed in. To end the day we had some Hake mixed in with the Tile. We hit the Cod wrecks on day 3. The first two wrecks were a big disappointment with only a handful of Cod. The third wreck produced well and the fourth produced very well with Cod and Pollock. All in all a good trip with full coolers!
