Mon Sep 23 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a tougher day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. Despite today being one of the better day condition wise, than the past few days, fishing was tough in the dirty water that was stirred up from the ground swell. We started off a bit closer to the island and had a slower pick of mostly medium sized Porgies along with some Striped Bass. Surprisingly today in this area that we’ve been fishing we got onto some Striped Bass with most being over the slot limit and having to be thrown back, but we did mange to boat 2-3 fish. We also did see some whales in this area too today to our delight, which was not something we have been seeing at all lately. Eventually, we worked our way offshore and got onto a better pick of nice Porgies with a few SeaBass mixed in. Today was not a great day of SeaBass. The first place pool winner today went to Chris Lin from Nassau County with a 2 1/4 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner today went to Juan Mendez from the Bronx, NY with an 8 lb Striped Bass. We will definitely be sailing again tomorrow at 5am on our BLOCK ISLAND Jumbo Porgies and SeaBass, our ticket office will be open at 4am for check-in.
