Thurs Oct 3– Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a tougher day of fishing today on the Viking Star. Despite being one of the best weather days we’ve had in weeks, the fish were just not biting today. With a large crowd today we moved all around trying a few different spots, with pretty much the same results at each drop. The fish seemed to just fish the bait around for the most part, and not really chew. We did get a half-way decent shot midway through the trip that lasted for about an hour where most people were able to get a good pick of fish. We did have some nice jumbo Porgies mixed in, just not a whole lot of fish. SeaBass were on the smaller side, with a lot of throwbacks today. We saw about a dozen keeper Cod today, a few Pollock, and plenty of Mackerell as well. The first prize pool winner went to Arnold Petties from Jamaica, NY with a 3.6 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner today went to Mark Wright with an 8 lb Cod fish. We will be sailing again tomorrow for our Block Island Porgies and SeaBass at 5am on the Viking Star, our check-in office will be open at 4am.
