Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Wed Aug 2 – Whale Watching

Our streak continues! With temperatures in the 70’s, calm seas, and absolutely unlimited visibility, we could not have asked for better conditions to search for cetaceans on our ninth trip of the season. Reports of whales brought us west of Block Island where spouts were immediately spotted. The first belonged to two humpback whales, surfacing,…

Capt J.R. reports another enjoyable afternoon onboard the Viking Star. We found lots of sea bass and porgies bending rods all around the boat. Thur Aug 3 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing on the Viking Starship. We started off this morning making some drifts around the Lighthouse and had non-stop Porgy action for a few hours, with some nice size fish with mostly larges. When the full moon tide flooded in we decided to make our way to the east in search of some SeaBass, we made a few drifts and mostly had to pick through small fish to get our limit, but did have a handful of keeper Fluke and Blue fish. We then worked our way back to where we started the day and had one nice 2 hour drift to finish off the day with our limit of Porgies. The first place pool winner went to Erik Flores from New York with a 2.8 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner went…

Wed Aug 2 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports another great day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We stared off the morning in some of our usual spots and seemed to get right on the bite. Fishing was as good as it’s been lately with a lot more of the larger Porgies, and a few jumbo fish in the mix and even a few SeaBass. After couple hours we worked our way into the the SeaBass grounds and found a handful of nice sized fish, with some throwbacks. We did see a few Mackerell again on the boat today as was as some really nice Fluke up to 6 lbs. The first place pool winner today went to Frederick Nichols from Nassau County with a 2 1/2 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner went to Everald Golding from the Bronx, NY with 5 lb Fluke. …

Tue Aug 1 – Full Moon Striped Bass

Capt Carl reports a slower night on the Full Moon Trip. We had pretty good action in the beginning of the trip with Bluefish, Giant Porgies, and some Sea Bass, but the Stripers eluded us tonight. The slight northerly breeze didn’t help. Either way, at least we had some fun in the beginning of the…
