Wed Sept 16 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Captain Dave reports a good day of fishing in the early part of the day, we stayed close to the island and fishing was good. We had plenty of Sea Bass and Porgies, a lot of little ones in the mix but we had plenty of keepers too. We headed offshore later in the day and found plenty of bigger fish, mostly Porgies but pretty much every angler had their limit on both Sea Bass and Porgies today. The pool was won by Anthony Parent of New York City witn a 3.5 lb Porgy. The edible pool was caught by Ray Jorge of the Bronx who landed himself a 5lb Trigger fish. We are sailing daily at 5am on our Block Island Jumbo Porgy and Sea Bass Trips. Reservations are a MUST. Please call 631 668 5700 or log onto…
Wed Sept 16- Viking Fleet/ Cresli Whale Watch Report from Sept. 13 2020
Sunday September 13, 2020 Humpbacks, dolphins, and shearwaters! Oh my! Our last 2020 trip continued our perfect season (100% success). Once again, our first humpback was a very small and elusive one, surfacing for a single blow and submerging for 9-11 minutes. We saw it fluke, but were never able to get photos of this whale. We headed on our way and encountered about 100 inshore bottlenose dolphins. Heading further east, we found our next whale, a juvenile humpback we’d seen back on 7/25/2020. We met up with another group of about 45 inshore bottlenose dolphins before coming across another humpback, one we’d originally seen on 7/31/2019, and again on 9/2/2020. The prey items in the water column were often very dense and either extended throughout the water, or hung to the bottom. We saw more shearwaters than we’d seen in a…
Tue Sept 15 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Capt Dave reports a pretty good day on the Viking Starship. It was not as good as yesterday with the ground swell on and the rough conditions. The Porgies and SeaBass were a bit smaller today and we had to contend with the Blue fish harassing us, but all in all we had a good catch. The pool winner who would like to remain anonymous caught a 22″ – 4 lb Porgy.
Mon Sept 14 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Capt Dave reports fantastic fishing on the first day of the Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass trip on the Viking Starship! We spent the day checking things out. They were good quality fat and healthy fish with nice color. The pool winner was John Banegas from Mastic Beach, NY with a 3.3 lb fish.

Sun Sept 13 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports a “Bail Job” just off the beach this morning on the Viking Starship. Anglers were bringing medium to large Porgies over the rail 2 at a time. It wasn’t long before everyone had their limit. We headed South to find some quality Sea Bass, but the pickings were slim. We fished around and picked up some keeper Sea Bass and also some nice Triggerfish and Blowfish. First place in the pool today went to Santos Cruz of Roosevelt, NY with a 2 1/2 lb Porgy. Edible pool went to Ricardo Villalobo of Uniondale, NY with a 4 lb Triggerfish. Tomorrow the Viking Starship is headed to Block Island to begin our daily Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass trips.
