Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Tuesday Sept 9th

Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports  tough day today due to the rough and windy weather. Today was not the greatest conditions to fish in but we still managed an okay catch. We had some porgies with tons of sea bass- most people had their limits on the sea bass- and we also had 2 nice keeper striped bass on the boat. Today’s pool winner was Shirley Dane of Jamaica Queens with a 2.5lb porgy. 3 Day Full Moon Tuna/ Sword Ultra LTD Captain Carl reports YellowfinSANITY on the Viking Star! We arrived on the grounds and started fishing at 10pm. Within minutes we hooked and landed our fist yellowfin. A couple minutes later, another one. Then another and another and it became very steady with all big yellowfin averaging from 50-80lbs. Bait and jogs both…

Monday Sept 8

Full Moon  Captain Ant reports it was a Beautiful night for Bailing Behemoths at Block.  We had perfect conditions, a full moon tide and a turbulent ocean absolutely turned on the feedbag as they bit from start to finish.  We were 8 fish away from limiting out the boat and honestly we should have been home early with the amount of fish on that were lost.  They were just fighting like steamrollers last night and they got bigger and bigger as it got sloppier and sloppier.  Three 40 plus pound Behemoths hit the deck last night and unfortunately one weighed in just shy of 49lbs on the ride home.  Selfish of us to hope for a 50 but it most likely was until Hank “One Shot” Lackner gaffed it right in the heart.  Congratulations to Gary Kolesar from Patchogue who…

Sunday September 7th

Night Striped Bass Captain Ant reports a decent local trip, although we had the unfortunate end of tide-slack for a good part. Our first drift had rods bent with bass & blues. After that all blues until the last drift where we landed more bass. The pool was swept by Billy Coppola from Pleasantville, NY with a 17lbs and a 13lbs. Half Day Fluke PM Capt Stephen Francis reports decent action with porgies and sea bass in the mix. We had lots of shorts with a good mix of keepers. Today’s pool winner was Debbie Ruggirello of Islip with a 4lb fluke. Montauk Local Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a slow start this morning on the porgy boat. The weather wasn’t ideal at the start, but as the day went on, the weather got better and so did…

Friday September 5th

Night Striped Bass  Capt Ant reports the Behemoth grounds were an absolute Striper paradise last night as the waters were all stirred up from a stronger wind than predicted which definitely turned the feedbag on.  Unfortunately we had to battle the wind against tide otherwise it would have been even more insane.  We averaged a fish a man for the full boat and the size, well it is Behemoth land for a reason.  Two more 40’lbers, about 14 over 30 and plenty of high 20’s were hooked, fought and eventually laid to rest on the deck of the mighty Starship.  Unfortunately the 42 and 40.7lber were not entered in the pool which left the door open for Ponytail Eric Cropper, who took the pool his last trip out with a 50, following it up with a 38.8lber.  Bob Nazaro from…

They weren’t feeding on the first few drifts but once the tide slowed a bit, they became more aggressive. We also had some scup and sea bass in the mix. The pool winner Brian Walsh from Centerport, NY with a nice 5.25lb fluke. Great job to our own Christine…

Montauk Local JUMBO Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports very good porgy fishing close to home today. We had mostly LARGE fish today! Everyone had their limit of sea bass up to 4lbs and tons of nice JUMBO porgies. We also had some blues in the mix. All in all it was a great day of local fishing. Today’s pool winner was Moisos Ramos with a nice JUMBO 3.5lb porgy. PORGY SCHEDULE UPDATE!!! Due to phenomenal LOCAL fishing Captain Dave has postponed going to Block Island for the long trip because there are SO MANY LARGE PORGIES at Montauk Light House. Captain Dave will continue…

Saturday Aug 30th

Night Striped Bass Jig & Eel Combo  Capt. Ant reports very solid to excellent Bassing on the two trips last night.  We had quantity and quality and the Behemothland came alive again…add another 40lber to the list!!!!!  6p Local Bass Express – Action was non-stop on every drift once we got tide.  It was steady,1-3 a drift with a decent number of blues in the mix as well.  Although we had a number of first timers, they mastered the process pretty quickly and we were able to maximize the catch.  Check out the video on Facebook….it certainly tells the story.  Rodrigo Silva took the pool with a 36lb Moocow and Brendan Johnson came in second with his own 30lb Moo. Full Day Fluke and Sea Bass Captain Carl reports a decent day on the full day fluke boat. We picked…

Friday August 29

Half Day Fluke AM One of Viking Fleet’s favorite regulars Angelo Demetroulakos won the pool yesterday! Block Island Behemoth Capt. Ant reports an excellent Bass trip last night overall.  We started the night out at the local grounds and had a fantastic start.  26 keepers in 6 drifts to 35lbs.  We then moved to the Behemoth grounds and for the first time this year were denied.  Still a bit of a heave on to the east and that might have effected the bite.  They certainly were there, in fact more piles of bass than I’ve seen in a few weeks.  Just no bite.  We’d pass through a school and catch 1 when every rod should have been doubled over.  We picked a few more over the night to round out the catch.  Frank Guinesss Stoutenberg was high hook with 4…

Thursday August 28

Jig &Eel Combo Capt. Ant reports a fantastic night locally considering the conditions.  We had a stiff northwest wind against a screaming flood tide, add to it the swell of Cristobal and drifting squarely was a challenge to say the least.  Even with that they finally bit after a month hibernation. The sizes were mixed as we had a couple throwbacks up to a 42lb rock slob.  Average was about 20bs.  Bluefish were a bit of a nuisance at the start but once the tide got roaring it was 99% Moo Cow Linesiders and 3-4 a drift up until we left.  John Bye from Wantaugh took the pool with the 42lber and Mike Scarzelli took 2nd with a 36lber. Half Day Fluke AM Captain Ant reports an excellent morning trip with quality fluke and jumbo sea bass and biscuits in…
