Montauk

Tues July 4 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports an action filled day of fishing today on the Viking Starlite. We had a great start to the morning anchored just south of the Lighthouse, we had plenty of big Porgies coming up and some Blue fish in the mix. When the tide started running we headed offshore in hunt of the…

Tues July 4- 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt J.R. reports a decent morning of fishing on the Viking Star. We picked around the Lighthouse this morning and had a medley of Seabass, Porgies, and Fluke. Porgies and SeaBass were on the larger size today and we’ve been seeing more keeper Fluke each time we set out. The first and second place pool…

Mon July 3 – Full Moon Striped Bass

Capt Carl reports an absolute bloodbath on the Viking Star Full Moon Striped Bass extravaganza! It was pretty insane non-stop action from start to finish with the first half of the night seeing mainly angry hard fighting aggressive giant Bluefish. Along with Giant Scup and a beauty 7lb Fluke! Once it got dark, the Blues…

Mon July 3- 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt J.R. reports a nice afternoon fishing on the Viking Star. Conditions bettered from this morning and we were able to get into the SeaBass bite with a handful of large sizes coming up. We did also get our pick of Porgies and SeaBass without having to do much traveling. The first place pool winner…

Mon July 3 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We started off the morning offshore looking for SeaBass trying to avoid that raging full moon tide. We did find ourselves a nice selection of SeaBass with a few keepers and some throwbacks. We also managed to get some large sized Porgies in the mix in that deeper water. When conditions improved we worked our way back to the Lighthouse for some Porgy fishing and the fishing was excellent. We had plenty of Porgies, a couple Fluke, and some Blues. The first place pool winner went to S. Sneider from Bayshore, NY with a 3 lb Porgy.

Mon July 3- 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt J.R. reports a much better morning of fishing today on the Viking Star. We had a nicer selection Fluke, Porgies, and SeaBass today, however we did still struggle with flooding of that full moon tide. We did manage to boat many keeper Fluke and SeaBass today fishing off the Lighthouse along with some Blue…

Sun July 2 – Whale Watching

2 species of dolphins and tons of pelagic birds! Our first 2023 whale watch was on a windy and bouncy day. We had reports of whales and dolphins in the area. Shortly after passing Montauk Light we found our first group of about 60 bottlenose dolphins, stayed with them for a while. We headed further…

Sun July 2- 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Mike reports a difficult afternoon of fishing today on the Viking Star. High winds made for a tough afternoon. We did manage to boat a few nice SeaBass, Porgy, and a very large Fluke, despite the poor conditions. There was no pool on the boat this afternoon. We will definitely be sailing again tomorrow (Monday, July 3rd) on both the AM and PM 1/2 Day fishing trips either from 8am-12pm or 1pm-5pm.

Sun July 2- Full Day Block Island Fluke

Captain Carl reports a bit of a tough day on our Full Day Block Island Fluke and Sea Bass trip. We started off with the Full Moon Flood tide and wind together drifting at 2.2 kts. Once that started to settle down, we started picking away with 2-3 keepers per drift. Then, we broke the…

Sun July 2 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports an off day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. The full moon flood tide was running hard today and made for more difficult fishing. When the conditions righted themselves we found ourselves in a nice pile of large Porgies. The SeaBass seemed to be on the smaller size today, with not as many keepers as throws. We also had a handful of Blue fish on the boat today and released a 40 lb Striped Bass as it was over slot limit. The pool winner went unnamed today, but won the pool with a 3.1 lb Porgy. We are definitely sailing again tomorrow (Monday, July 3rd) on our 5 am Montauk Lighthouse Porgies & SeaBass.
