Sun Aug 25- Whale Watching- Starship

Summer may be winding down, but the thrill of a CRESLI/Viking whale watch is certainly not! What a day we had yesterday on the Viking Starship: it began with a small group of Tamanend’s bottlenose dolphins swimming close to shore. We spent a bit of time with them ensuring everyone had a good look before moving on and spotting a juvenile humpback whale in 65 feet of water approximately one mile from the beach. We knew larger adults were still in the area so we headed offshore to find them and that we did! It all began with a pectoral flipper-slapping adult in the mix of a dozen humpbacks, including at least one calf. The calf, which we have seen on previous trips, exhibited a variety of surface-active behaviors, including full and partial breaches, tail throws, inverted lob-tailing, pectoral flipper…

Sun Aug 25 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Mike reports non-stop stop rod bending action all afternoon on the Viking Star! Black Sea Bass were certainly the stars of the trip this afternoon, with most anglers landing a couple keeper each making for a lot of Bass in the buckets. The Porgy bite did seem to settle down from this morning and we saw more throw-backs than keepers on the Fluke this afternoon. Overall, there was a lot of action and plenty of fish for everyone to go home with. The pool winner went to Joe Coppola from East Meadow, NY with a 3 lb SeaBass

Fri Aug 23- Whale Watching- Star

Another spectacular whale watch trip on the Viking Star! While we Expecting to go offshore to find the whales that were been seen on Wednesday, Dr. Kopelman and several volunteers saw humpback whales close to shore whales from the Overlook Beach on Old Montauk Highway on their way out to see to the ship. These…

Captain JR reports a very enjoyable morning of catching onboard the Viking Starlite. Anglers were kept busy all trip catching sea bass, fluke, and porgies. Sat Aug 24 – 1/2 Day Fishing Private Charter AM

Capt Mike reports a good morning of fishing on the Viking Starlite. Fishing started good from the get-go and stayed consistent the entire trip! There were plenty of jumbo Porgies and big Sea bass to be caught. The Fluke bite started up late as it has been the last few trips, seeing a lot of shorts coming up.  We did manage a half dozen or so keeper Fluke to end a great mixed bag morning.
