Fishing Reports

Tues Aug 22- Montauk Lighthouse Porgies & Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a pretty good day of fishing on the Viking Starship despite rough conditions today. We spent most our day anchored up and hiding from the  Northeast wind, and had a great pick of mixed size Porgies with a lot on the large size and a few jumbos. On our last anchor drop the fish were biting their heads off, boating both large Porgies and Mackerell. We then made our way half way to Block Island and made another anchor drop and had a decent pick os SeaBass, with a lot more small fish than anything, but everyone seemed to have 1 or 2 very nice fish. We did boat about half a dozen keeper Fluke as well. The pool winner went to Bernard Niranjan from Queens, NY with a 3 lb. Porgy. We are sailing again tomorrow…

Capt Steven Sr. reports some really good fishing despite windier conditions on the Viking Star. Mon Aug 21- Montauk Lighthouse Porgies & Sea Bass

Capt J.R. reports a very good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We made our first drift near the Lighthouse and drifted there for about a 2-hour steady pick of mixed sized Porgies. We then worked our way east of the Lighthouse and made two anchors drops and had a decent pick of Seabass and Porgies, with half a dozen keeper Fluke. To finish off the trip we made a drift half way between the island and had some decent action, but mostly small stuff. We did not do a pool on the boat today, and we will definitely be sailing again tomorrow on at 5 am from the Montauk Lighthouse Porgies and SeaBass.

Mon Aug 21- 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt J.R. reports a very good morning of catching onboard the Viking Star. Big Porgies and SeaBass kept anglers busy all trip and were going into buckets at a constant pace. We also found a few very nice KEEPER Fluke to 6.5 lbs. Everybody had a very nice bag of meat to go home with. The first place pool winner went to John Miller from Queens, NY with a 6 lb. Fluke.

Capt Steven reports a fun afternoon of fishing today on the Viking Star. This beautiful afternoon brought on some great fishing for all. We ran a different course today and had action at every drop with a mix of Fluke, Porgy, and SeaBass. Keeper Fluke was the name of the game, for the PM trip…

Captain Dave reports excellent fishing today, along with some beautiful weather. There were plenty of drifts of just straight porgy fishing which lasted up to two hours. The crew caught mostly larges and very few mediums and when close to the island they caught a bit of mackerel. The pool winners today were John Marshall from Anglewood, NJ with a 2.5 lb porgy and Anguila from Bayshore, NY with a 3.5 lb sea bass.
