Fishing Reports

Fri Oct 7 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports an interesting day of fishing on the Viking Starship. There was a little of everything biting today, but the bite was a bit off as the water was still turned up from the aftermath of the storm. We had a slow pick of mixed sized Porgies and a handful of keeper sized SeaBass. Everyone seemed to have a nice bucket of Porgies and 3 or 4 keeper SeaBass. We even had some Fluke today up to 6 lbs, as well as plenty of Mackerell and we did see our first appearance from the Winter Dog Fish. The first place pool winner went to Gun Soo Youn from Closter, NJ with a 2 1/2 lb Porgy. Tomorrow’s trip (Saturday, October 8th) is almost sold out, so make sure to make a reservation while you can.

Fri Sept 30 – Montauk Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a great day on the Viking Starship. Porgy fishing started out a bit slow on the first few drops, but then it was on! The Porgies were hungry!! We had them chewing even in the deep and they were BIG! The Sea Bass didn’t get a chance to bite the hooks much today, but we did have some up to 4 lbs. The first place pool winner was Abel Ventura from El Salvador with a 3 1/4 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Duke Brown from Brooklyn, NY with a massive Sea Bass over 4 lbs. Unfortunately all fishing trips are cancelled Saturday, Oct 1st through Tuesday Oct 4th due to the windy conditions expected. We are hoping to get back out there Wed Oct 5th.

Thur Sept 29 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports an okay day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. Conditions were difficult today as we were fighting a rough North East wind. The Porgy bite was still pretty good despite the conditions, we found Porgies everywhere we went just a slow bite. The SeaBass bite did take a hit today, but me managed to get into a small pile as continued to work our way into deeper water. Everyone seemed to have 3-4 decent keepers, but Porgies was the main catch today. We did have a few Cod fish in the mix as well as some Mackerell. We only had one pool on the boat today and it wen tot Jack Alboher from Queens, NY with a whopping 4 lb Porgy. We will be going out tomorrow (Friday, October 30th) for the 5AM- Block Island Porgies…

Tues Sept 27 to Thurs Sept 29- 60 Hour Tuna/Mahi LTD

Capt Jr reports a SLAMMER trip onboard the Viking Star! The day time chunk bite was on once again with rods doubled over from the moment we arrived at the grounds. Big 50-80 pound yellow fin tuna kept us busy till the sun went down on the first day of fishing. The night bite wasn’t happening so most anglers rested up for the day to come. Dawn on the second day brought NOTHING! We changed zoo fishing a few new areas and relocated the herd and began whacking and stacking the big yellow fin tuna once again. The last couple hours before sunset were pandemonium with all anglers capturing the big angry yellow fin. When darkness fell everyone had their limit and we packed the boxes to capacity. The best trip we have had yet! Pool winners were Michael Jung…

Wed Sept 28 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports a great day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We started off the morning fishing south of Block Island where we had excellent Porgy fishing on the first drop. Most of the fish were between large and jumbos. When we got our Porgies we worked our way farther off the island and did some SeaBassing. SeaBass fishing was good, with mostly all keepers and a lot between 4-5 lbs. We found about a half a dozen keeper Cod fish in the deeper water along with plenty of Mackerell. The first place pool winner went to Noel Morris from Brooklyn with a 3 1/4 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner went to William Deal also known as “Big Deal” from Troy, NY with a 9 lb Cod Fish. We most definitely will be sailing tomorrow (Wednesday, September…

Tue Sept 27 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports another very good day on the Viking Starship. We had plenty of Porgies with Sea Bass mixed in everywhere we went, so we didn’t have to do any looking around for the Sea Bass. We also had a couple of Bluefish, some Triggers, Mackerel and a 40 lb Striped Bass released unharmed!…

Mon Sept 26 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing despite the conditions today on the Viking Starship.  The conditions were tough out there but the fish were still biting. We had a nice catch of Porgies this morning working in close in the shallow water. The Porgies were biting their heads off and we had a nice size selection. After loading up we went offhshore into about 90 feet of water and had a slow but steady pick of 2-3 lb SeaBass. More mackerell today on the boat too. The first place pool winner went to Bernaldo Castillo from Queens, NY with a 3.2 lb Porgy. We will be sailing tomorrow again tomorrow for the 5am Porgies and SeaBass.

Sun Sept 25 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt J.R. reports an excellent afternoon of fishing on the Viking Star. We found lots of KEEPER Fluke for all anglers and some jumbo Porgies. The Fluke action was the best we have had in several weeks! A very welcomed resurgence in the local waters. The first place pool winner went to John Bowden from Massapequa,…

Sun Sept 25 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing around Block Island today on the Viking Starship. We started the morning in class tight to the shore where fishing was on the slower side, but we managed to pick a way at a few. We then ventured into some deeper water where we found plenty of…
