Fri Aug 6 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Capt. Dave reports a decent day on the Viking Starship. The fishing conditions weren’t ideal due to a ground swell in our area. It was a slow pick out by the lighthouse, we caught a variety of sized Porgies. We then ventured out east for one drift, and caught a nice mix of SeaBass. Despite the conditions, everyone went home with their limit of nicer sized SeaBass. Today’s place pool winners were Sherron Smith from New Jersey with a 2.1lb Porgy, and Danny Yuen from New York with a 3.6lb SeaBass.

Wed Aug 4- 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt. JR reports nice trip this afternoon despite the not so nice weather. It was on the slower side this afternoon once the weather took a nasty turn but, we managed to stay and get a nice catch. The pool winner was John from Massepequa, NY, with a 3 lb Seabass.
Wed Aug 4 – Whale Watching
Whales in the rain! We headed out with excellent visibility and just a light misty rain, hoping that the rain would stay to our south. Oh well, we were wrong, although when the wind was behind us, the rain was quite tolerable. We weren’t really fazed by the rain and continued to search for whales. After about an hour, a minke whale did a full-body breach just 200 yds from then port bow. It was an amazing, yet fleeting sight that only a handful of us saw. An hour later we saw the tell-tall splash of a breach and headed to find a humpback lunge feeding and taking high-fluking dives. These were great sights that made the rainy trip worthwhile. The humpback was one we’d seen in this area 2 weeks earlier. 1 Minke whale 1 Humpback whale 1 Ocean…
