Wed Aug 26- 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt JR reports an excellent afternoon on the Viking Star. We had SeaBass and Porgies coming up all trip with some really nice keeper Fluke in the mix. A grand time was had by all. The pool winner was Tito Rivera from Shelter Island, NY with a 5 lb Fluke.
Wed Aug 26 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass
Capt Dave reports a good morning of fishing, despite the windy conditions. We anchored up south of the lighthouse for some Porgies. While over there we caught plenty of nice size Porgies all morning. We went offshore for SeaBass, we had to pick through a bunch of little ones but we caught plenty of nice keeper SeaBass and Porgies, and everyone got their limit. The pool winner was Edward Green with a 3 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Ronald Ashley with a 4 lb SeaBass.
Wed Aug 26- 1/2 Fishing AM
Captain JR reports that we had another great trip this morning on the Viking Star. We captured a plethora of porgies and some really nice Sea Bass. A few Fluke came up in the mix as well. Everyone ended their trip with full bags of delicious meat. Today’s pool was won by Jeff Bouquio of Port Jeff, NY with a 4lb Fluke. Second place was taken by Jake Gruttadauria of Trumbull, CT with a 3lb Fluke.
Tue Aug 25 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt JR reports a stellar trip this afternoon with buckets full of SeaBass and Porgies. The action was constant. Everyone went home with very big bags of meat. The pool winner was 12 year old Will Delanoy from West Islip, NY with a 5 lb Fluke.
Tues Aug 25 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies and Knothead SeaBass
Capt Dave reports a very good day of fishing by the lighthouse. We started out at the lighthouse catching some Porgies, over there we had great conditions that allowed us to have 2 nice long drifts. Everyone got their limit on Porgies by 9:30 so we decided to head off for SeaBass. While there we caught some beautiful Seabass, but there were a lot of Porgies that we had to pick through to find them. Everyone ended up getting their limit today and went home with plenty of fish. The pool winner was Qirong Li from Brooklyn, NY with a 3 lb Porgy.
Tues Aug 25- 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt JR reports excellent fishing this morning on the Viking Star. All anglers had buckets of SeaBass and Porgies. We also boated a few very nice Fluke. Action was red hot all morning. The pool winner was Spencer Murphy from Kings Park, NY with a 5.25 lb Fluke.
Tue Aug 25 – Whale Watching
Saturday August 22, 2020 5 Humpbacks and about 60 Common Bottlenose dolphins Today’s trip couldn’t have started out better, with a humpback whale in Block Island Sound before we even made it to the ocean! This was a small humpback, about 24 feet (7.3 meters), probably less than 1 year old, by itself about 1 nautical mile NNW of Montauk Point. We stayed with this whale for a short while and then headed out to find others. It wasn’t long before we found Nile’s 2016 calf again. We stayed with this 4 year old male for some time and were able to get additional photos documenting his injuries. As we did a few days ago, we shared these photos with the Center for Coastal Studies Animal Entanglement Response (MAER) personnel and others and are glad to hear that his wounds are healing…
Mon Aug 24 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM
Capt JR reports a great day on the Viking Star. There was a lot of action with a mixed bag of Fluke, SeaBass and Porgies. The pool winner was Pete Carroll from Staten Island, NY with a 7.5 lb Fluke!
Mon Aug 24 – Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass
Capt Dave reports another excellent day of fishing on the Viking Starship. Our very first drift lasted for over 2 hours and we caught all the Jumbo Porgies we needed. Sea Bass fishing had a slower start with a lot of smaller ones and Porgies mixed in. We kept at it and almost everyone got their limit on nice Sea Bass. Also landed today were a 1/2 dozen keeper Fluke and a handful of Bluefish. Today’s pool winner was Marl Lepik who caught a 2.8lb Porgy.
Mon Aug 24 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM
Capt JR reports a great trip on the Viking Star. We mostly had Sea Bass and Fluke coming up. We also had a good sprinkling of quality Porgies in the mix. Great action all trip long. Teddy Angelides was our first place pool winner from Mclean, VA with a 6 lb Fluke.
