Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Capt Dave reports really great fishing despite the windy and rough conditions. On our first drop we had a good mix of porgies and sea bass. After that we moved off to deeper water and caught nicer quality fish with a handful trophy size. We also had some cod today. The first place pool winner was Rafael Genaro from Manhattan, NY with a 4.5 lb porgy. The second place pool winner was Joseph Corolla from Staten Island, NY with a 6.2 lb sea bass.
Saturday Sept 17
Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Captain Sarah reports that they absolutely crushed the fish today! Drifting and anchored up we caught buckets full of porgies and nice sea bass. We also had a few big blues and some keeper cod in the mix. Heavy coolers and smiling faces left the boat. Today’s first place pool winner was Armindo Guiana of Riverside with a JUMBO 4.6lb porgy and in second place was John Majeed of Schenectady with a 11.2lb bluefish. Night Striped Bass Capt Dave reports a very good trip last night. We had really fishing by the Lighthouse with almost our limit of striped bass along with a bunch of blue fish. 48 Hour Tuna-Viking Fivestar Capt Steven Jr reports that we managed to put together a good trip with some good action on the troll. We ended up with 13 albacore and a handful of mahi. For the first half of the day the troll was very quiet, but we grabbed a few mahi off the pots. Just before sundown the albies came up and decided to chew. We had a bunch of multiple hook ups which made them add up in a few passes. The night bite remains very quiet with only a couple mystery bites and not much squid around. 2 Night Tuna LTD Captain Jerry reports that the tuna bite is picking up! We had lots of bites but only managed a few in the boat. The ones we did have were nice quality- we had some nice yellowfins from 40-60lbs, mahi mahi from 5-20lbs and one really nice swordfish. The first place pool winner was Alex Harbanyaf of Staten Island with a 100lb swordfish and in second place was Joe Matzinger of West Babylon with a 15lb mahi mahi. Tuesday Sept 13
Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a good day of fishing today aboard the Viking Starship today. We had some good porgy fishing, and not so many sea bass as we have been seeing, but nice quality fish. We also had about 10 keeper cod. Today’s first place winner was Harold Bussey of Brooklyn with a 3.5lb porgy and in second place was Ron Hughes of Brooklyn with a 12lb cod.

Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass Capt Dave reports an excellent day aboard the Viking Starship. We had a great porgy drop first thing this morning with very good fishing. Then we went searching for sea bass and cod. We were near our limit of sea bass with the largest being about 8 lbs. We also had about a dozen keeper cod, a couple of fluke and a few blue fish. The pool winner was Jack Ng with a 3 1/2 lb porgy. Thur Sept 8 to Sun Sept 11 – 3 Day TNT Limited Capt Jerry reports fishing was generally slow due to tropical storm Hermine, but the weather was good. Montauk Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Capt Dave reports rough conditions on the Viking Starship. Fishing was okay today, but not fantastic due to the fast drift. We put a nice catch together of mixed porgies and a lot of sea bass. The first place pool winner was Colombia from the Bronx with a 3.8 lb porgy. The edible pool winner was Tito Agosto from Brooklyn, NY with a 12 lb striped bass. * Tomorrow is our first day of Montauk Fall Jumbo Porgies & Sea Bass. Departing at 5am and Returning at 3pm. The fare is $100/Adult and $50/Child (5 – 12 yrs). Bottom Fishing-Viking Fivestar-Mulhaul Charter Capt Steven Jr reports good fishing this afternoon. We had great action with a mess of porgies with a lot of really nice sea bass mixed in. Night Striped Bass Capt Dave reports a slow night on the Viking Starship. We only had one keeper bass and one short, along with a couple of blue fish and 4 big sea bass. 1/2 Day Fluke – PM Capt Sarah reports a great afternoon on the Viking Stariper! We loaded up on some beautiful large sea bass and put on a few fluke. A few anglers reached their limit of 8 sea bass. A good time was had by all! The pool winning fish was 5.6 lbs. 1/2 Day Fluke – PM Capt Sarah reports a wonderful afternoon aboard the Viking Stariper. We tried a different area then the AM trip and it paid off. Although the fluke bite was still a bit slow, the sea bass were chewing hard! We had lots of big beautiful sea bass filling up the buckets all afternoon. We did end up with a few nice fluke and all did go home with dinner. The pool winner had a nice 6.7 lb fluke, unfortunately he took off before we could get his info!
