Saturday December 26

Christmas Cod Special Captain Carl reports an excellent Christmas Cod trip on the Viking Star today. We had steady solid action all day with market size cod and a lot of shorts as well to keep the action fun, along with some sea bass and cunners too. Bait worked best for most of the day, and we had a pretty awesome afternoon jig bite as well. The Wreck Fish Mafia boys all held their cappo status with size and numbers! WFM member Theo Zmach, of Oceanside, NY took the pool, again, with a 19 lb cod, and Saso Tsiatis of Elmont, NY took second with a 17 pounder. Daniel Stanislawski of Lindenhurst had high hook with 26 keepers (ORL), and Marty Wellen Dowd had 19 (ORL), so they must have been thick! Ronnie and Bruce teamed up for 31 keepers…

Montauk Fall Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a really great day of porgy fishing. We left the porgies biting in search of some sea bass. Everybody caught a few sea bass and there were about 15 cod caught up to 14lbs. The pool winner was Kevin “Flounder” Wong from Flushing, Queens, NY with a 3.2lb porgy.

Sun Dec 20

Montauk Fall Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports despite the rough conditions, with most of our anglers toughing it out, we had great porgy fishing with quality JUMBO scup! The sea bass were a bit slower today and everyone had at least one cod. The first place pool winner was Luke Lachmann from Waterville, NY with a 4 1/4lb porgy. The edible pool winner was Leonardo Reyes with a 12 1/2lb cod.

Friday Dec 18

Montauk Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a good day of bottom fishing today aboard the Viking Star. We had plenty of nice big porgies, a handful of sea bass and plenty of cod- with the high hook being 6 codfish. Today’s pool winner was Winston Brown of the Bronx with a nice 3.5lb porgy.

Thursday Dec 17

Montauk Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a quick trip out to the fishing grounds today aboard the Viking Star. We were able to make on quick drop before we headed home for a medical emergency. We did manage to get some sea bass, about a half dozen cod and a few porgies. Today’s pool winner was Nick Wang of Queens with a 14lb cod.

Wednesday Dec 16

Montauk Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a bit of a slower day today aboard the Viking Star. We has a slow pick of some really nice sized porgies and a handful of sea bass. We also had about 20 keeper cod. Today’s first place pool winner was Romaim Itwaru of Queens with a nice big 4.2lb porgy and in second place was Steve Schwartz of the Bronx with a nice 16lb cod. Tomorrow’s weather is looking good- there may be a little rain, but no wind. We will be sailing at 5am.

Mon Dec 14

Montauk Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports yet another good day of fishing aboard the Viking Star. Most people had their limits of both porgies and sea bass and we also had some cod in the mix. Today’s pool winner was Aquiles Gonzales of Union City with a nice big 3.7lb porgy.

Sun Dec 13

Montauk Fall Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass-Viking Star Captain Dave reports another great day on the porgy and sea bass grounds. We had a nice catch, along with approximately 25 cod. The first place pool winner was Kirk Clark from Canarsie, Brooklyn with a 4.25lb porgy. The edible pool winner was Henry Dan from Plainview, NY with a 13.25lb cod fish. Montauk Fall Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass-Viking Superstar Captain Anthony reports an excellent day of fishing off the Block Grounds. Our anglers had non stop action with jumbo porgies and sea bass, retaining their limits quickly. We also had approximately 25 keeper cod to 23lbs. The first place pool winner was Tom Louie from Syosset, NY with a 4.2lb porgy. The edible pool winner was Theresa Bryant from Jamaica, NY with a 23lb cod.

Saturday Dec 12

Montauk Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Viking SuperStar Captain Anthony reports an excellent day of bottom fishing on the block grounds, with a majority of customers retaining their limits of jumbo porgies and sea bass. We also had about 30 keeper cod today to 20lbs. The first place pool winner was Jesus Chavez of Brentwood with a HUGE 4.3lb porgy and in second place was Tue Shinu Chui of Brooklyn with an 18lb cod. Viking Star Captain Dave reports another great day of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had mostly porgies today, with some sea bass in the mix and about 25 keeper cod. Today’s first place pool winner was Adam Saler of Brooklyn with a nice big 4lb porgy and in second place was Jose Parache of Corona Queens with a 12.5lb cod.

Friday Dec 11

Montauk Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports another excellent day of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had good porgy fishing, lots of sea bass and about 30 keeper cod. Today’s first place pool winner was Pete Spacek of Montauk with a HUGE 4.3lb porgy and in second place was Calvin “Fat Man C” Jamison of Harlem with a very nice 17lb codfish.
