Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Offshore

Fri Sept 13 – 2 Night Tuna – Viking Star

Tue Sept 10 to Thurs Sept 12 Capt Jerry reports a “WAHOOPALOOZA” on our last offshore adventure on the Viking Star! We have never seen such a consistent Wahoo bite up here in the Northeast canyons like this before, where we landed 10 Wahoo for the boat, and lost a few more because of the sharp teeth biting through the leaders. All were taken on the troll, with the exception of Mr. Kobi landing one on the jig! It was pretty awesome to see this up in our area. We also landed a 200 lb Mako shark, a bunch of Mahi-Mahi, but only 1 Tuna for the trip. We marked tunas and had some bites and run-offs, but only landed the 1 nice Yellowfin. We expect them to really turn on after this upcoming moon. We also lost a swordfish….

Sat Aug 31 to Tue Sept 3 – 3 Day TNT – Viking Fivestar

Capt Steven Jr reports another excellent trip offshore over Labor Day weekend! We got our limit of Yellowfin from 30-80lbs, a decent mess of Golden and Grey Tilefish, with Pollock, Hake and Barrelfish mixed in, a handful of Mahi and a beauty Swordfish that weighed in at 220lbs! Day one we managed 7 nice Yellowfin on the troll and didn’t do any bottom fishing due to the unfavorable conditions. That night we picked a few Yellowfin early and then fought the Sword for a good while. As soon as he was on the deck the Yellowfin attacked! From 3am thru sun up we had non stop action on the bait and jigs with fish jumping all around the boat. Mid morning we got back on the troll and picked a couple small Yellows that we released. we then put in…

Mon Sept 2 to Thurs Sept 5 – 3 Day TNT LTD – Viking Star

Capt Jerry was happy to report a great first trip offshore for the Viking Star! We had solid bottom fishing during the day with plenty of Golden Tiles and other deep bottom dwellers. We also picked up a couple of Yellowfin on the troll. The night bite saw some more Yellowfin with some taken by jig and some with bait. All in all we had 20 nice Yellowfin on the boat, threw a couple of small ones back, and lost a few due to break offs. It was a great trip and there is tons of life out there! We can’t wait to get back out there this coming Tuesday, Sept 10 for a 2 night Tuna trip! There are a few spots open, so be sure to book and get in on the good Tuna bite while they are…

Tue Aug 27 to Thurs Aug 29 – 48 Hour Tuna Charter – Viking Fivestar Capt Steven Jr reports the boys @jamesjosephfishing joined us again for their annual Tuna trip. As always a lot of laughs and a good time had by all.

Mon Aug 26 – 48 Hour Tuna – Viking Fivestar

48 Hour Tuna Trip – Viking Fivestar Fri Aug 23 to Sun Aug 25 Capt Steven Jr reports a great trip off to the deep this weekend with 4 nice Big Eyes and a handful of big Yellowfin! We started off down where we have been fishing most of the year and we had a nice Yellowfin on the chunk, but the water just didn’t seem right. We couldn’t get anything going on the troll that morning, so we decided take a gamble and try a new piece of water another 40 miles away and it paid off!! As soon as we found the break we started marking fish and we put together a nice trip in a couple hours of fishing. The 4 Big Eyes weighed in at 115, 156, 187 and 232 lbs and the biggest Yellowfin was…

Capt Steven Jr reports another good trip on our 36 Hour Private Charter with 19 Yellow Fin up to 91.7 lbs! We stayed closer to home this trip and found fish flying out of the water when we arrived. A couple of fish were around 50 lbs, but the majority of them were 60-80 lbs. Overall a great trip with an awesome group of guys and good fishing. The fish are chewing this year so don’t hesitate to get booked before it’s too late!!! vikingfleet.com (631)668-5700

Fri Aug 16 – 48 Hour Tuna Charter – Viking Fivestar

Capt Steven Jr reports another great trip offshore this weekend with 19 big Yellow Fin up to 124lbs!! We had a steady pick of fish all day long on the troll and the night chunk remains quiet. We only had one fish around 50 lbs and the rest were all 75 lbs or bigger!! We only weighed 2 of the bigger fish and they came in at 121 lbs and 124 lbs! We had 2 other fish that were very close in size and another 4 fish that were right around the 100 lb mark. Definitely the best sized fish that we have seen in a number of years. With the fishing being as good as it has been we will be adding some more open boat trips in September and October!! In September we will be adding a couple…

Sat Aug 10 – 36 Hour Tuna – Viking Fivestar

Capt Steven Jr reports a tough trip this weekend being that we were limited on how far we could run on the short trip. We fished closer to home and managed 3 big yellow fin and a decent shot of nice Mahi. The quality yellows are making their way closer but the big body of fish is not here yet. We are looking forward to getting back out again this weekend on a 48 hour trip.
