Block Island Bottom – Cod/Sea Bass/Blackfish – Viking Fivestar Capt Steven Jr. reports that we put together another good day of bottom fishing on the Viking Fivestar. The sea bass are back to chewing their heads off after last weeks ground swell that slowed the bite down. Black fishing got a bit better too, around Block we’re seeing a bunch more keepers then we have been. The cod fish remain far and few in between, only seeing a couple keepers and a handful of shorts. But the sea bass fishing sent everyone home with a load of fillets. Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing on the Viking Starship.  It was a great day of porgy fishing with plenty of fish caught.  We moved around looking for sea bass, once…

Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Capt Dave reports a great day of fishing despite the rough weather. The porgy fishing was really good, then we moved around to find the sea bass, but with the heavy winds it was a bit challenging. We did find some trophy sized sea bass. Most were in the 3 to 4 lb range. We also had about a 1/2 dozen cod. The first place pool winner was Louis Armstrong from Jonesboro, GA with a 3.2 lb porgy. The second place pool winner was Herbert Ward from Brooklyn, NY with a 10 lb cod.

30-50 Mile Wreck Special. Capt Steven Jr reports that we had a phenomenal wreck trip today!! We only had to make 2 drops to have the boat loaded with jumbo sea bass! We made a third drop to look for a couple more cod and ended up releasing a bunch of big sea bass. There was a better sign of cod today on the wrecks and we had a couple ling, hake, scup and some blues come up. We came in a little early today because the coolers were full!! Good to see some quality cod around and I think we could have had more if we could have gotten through all of the sea bass. Looking forward to getting back out there! Block Island Bottom – Cod/Sea Bass/ Blackfish – Viking Fivestar Capt Steven reports that we had another picky day fishing around Block today. In the end everyone had a nice load of sea bass with some cod and scup in the mix.  Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Capt Dave reports really good fishing today on the Viking Starship. We fished the shallow water today to stay away from the dogfish. We had a really good pick of nice sized porgies. Better than we have seen in awhile. We had some time to look around for sea bass and ended up finding keeper size fish and catching our limit. We also had one striped bass. The pool winner was Billy…

Rusty Belly – Viking Fivestar Capt Steven Jr reports that we sailed with light crowd and put together a decent catch today on the Viking Fivestar. The black fishing had slower action then we saw on our last trip. But by mid day everyone had their limit of black fish with a couple fish around 8 lbs. Then we shot offshore to go sea bassing the bite was slower than it has been. We checked a lot of spots and only found a few fish here and there. We had a big ground swell from the east which seemed to effect the fishing. Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Capt Dave reports a very difficult day of porgy fishing today. When we had a lot of action the porgies were just keeper size, but when we got into…

Block Island Bottom Cod/Sea Bass/Blackfish – Viking Fivestar Capt Steven Jr. reports that we had another good day of fishing on our Block Island bottom trip. Seabassing remains very strong with lots of quality fish coming up. We managed a handful of cod along with some scup in the mix. The black fishing was nothing better then it has been locally with only a couple big fish coming up and a couple shorts. The water is still warm in the tog areas and we are still seeing the small scup and seabass in there as well. Hopefully the togging improves soon but everyone still went home with a good pile of fish.
