Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Sun Oct 13 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Dave G reports a good afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had beautiful conditions for the afternoon and the fish were biting. We ended up with a nice catch of Porgies and some jumbo Sea Bass. The pool winner was Vinnie Librizzo of Commack NY with a 4.25 pound Sea Bass. Congratulations Vinnie, first time angler with the Viking Fleet and pool winner.

Sun Oct 13 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass

Captain Dave reports a challenging but ultimately rewarding day on the Viking Starship.  We did manage some Porgies but every time we got onto the Porgy bite we were bedeviled by the Dogfish and had to move. The Dogfish were the major problem today.  Anglers did pick up some nice Sea Bass, but the best was yet to come.  We managed to get some lovely Pollock,  7-8 Cod in the 7-12 pound range and a few Bluefish.  The first place pool winner was Anthony Bennett from Bristol PA  with a 2.7 pound Scup.  Second place in the pool went to Dennis Harrington from Miller Place NY with a 12 pound Cod.

Sun Oct 13 – 1/2 Day Fishing AM

Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had breezy conditions and the bite started a bit on the slow side. Then the fish started to bite. We ended up with a nice catch of Porgies along with some nice Sea Bass and a couple Bluefish. The pool winner was Kevin Kilpatrick of College Point NY with a 3.25 pound Sea Bass.

Sat Oct 12 – Striped Bass Fishing

Capt Carl reports a tough go on the Night boat tonight. After the last 3 days of 50+ knots of wind and 15 ft swells, the water was very dirty close to home where we started and we had no bites. We ventured off closer to Block Island and we did have some action and bites with gorilla blues, and a few Sea Bass, but no striped Bass for the night. We are looking forward to some cleaner conditions for our Full Moon Trip Sunday night! Fran Vivo from Whitestone, NY took the pool with a hefty 17 lb Bluefish.

Sat Oct 12 – 1/2 Day Fishing PM

Capt Dave G reports that fishing was okay on the Viking Star this afternoon on our first trip out since the big storm. It was pretty breezy when we started fishing, but the wind laid down a bit as the afternoon went on. We ended up catching a bunch of Porgies and also some nice sized Sea Bass. The pool winner was Justin Forsberg from the Bronx, NY with a 3.25 lb Sea Bass.

Tue Oct 8 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports very good fishing on the Viking Starship. Inshore by Block Island was great with mostly Large and Jumbo Porgies and some SeaBass mixed in. Once everyone had their fill of Porgies we went offshore to find the SeaBass. It was a good steady pick of very nice size SeaBass along with some medium size Porgies. There were also some Bluefish today and about a 1/2 dozen Trigger Fish that were the biggest we have seen this season. The first place pool winner was Benny Niranjen with a monster 3.4 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Pete SeaBrook from Kings Park, NY with a 4.2 lb Jumbo SeaBass. Unfortunately the 5am Block Island Porgy & SeaBass trip is cancelled for Wednesday Oct 9, Thursday Oct 10 and Friday Oct 11 due to the weather. We will hopefully…

Mon Oct 7 -BLock Island Fall Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass

Captain Dave reports a fair trip today on the Viking Starship.  We layed up close to Block Island this morning and had a nice mixed bag of Porgies and Sea Bass.  Once the ebb started conditions got too rough to drift so we traveled to the East and had a good pick of nice Scup. We had to pick through a lot of shorts to put together some nice big Sea Bass offshore. All our anglers went home with plenty of fish; we just had to work a little harder today.  First place in the pool went to Harold Bussey with a 3.2 pound Porgy. photos to follow…………………….

Fri Oct 4 to Sun Oct 6 – Offshore Cod/East End Sea Bass trip

Captain Steven Sr. reports another fantastic trip on the Viking Star. We had a meeting before leaving the dock with all the passengers and crew, we all decided together knowing the wind was not in our favor, blowing 25-30 kts., to stay a little closer to shore. For the first half day we fished the wrecks and the ledges South of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. We had a slow pick of Cod some giant Sea Bass. We put a decent catch together by the end of the day, but weren’t satisfied with that. The weather was improving and expectations for a perfect day of fishing had Captain Steven steering the Viking Star to an area which he was hoping the fishing would prove good. As soon as we anchored up, Lo and Behold, Cod, Sea Bass and Bluefish started flying…

Sun Oct 6 -Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass

Captain Dave reports an excellent day fishing aboard the Viking Starship. We took the ride out to Block Island in the dark.  We got there before dawn and then barely had to move the entire day.  With the wind against the tide the Viking Starship  made long lazy drifts that lasted hours with rods bending…

Sat Oct 6 – 1/2 Day AM

Capt Steven Jr reports a slow start in this morning with rougher than predicted seas, on the Viking Fivestar. Our anglers were happy to be aboard our premium charter boat. We managed to put together a good catch of Porgies, Sea Bass, and Bluefish. There was no pool today. Our next half day fishing trip will be Friday, October 11.

Sat Oct 5 – Striped Bass Fishing

Captain Jerry reports an encouraging trip on the Viking Starship Saturday night. We had wonderful weather and the water temperature is dropping. A slow tide and a drift not quite fast enough was a challenge to our anglers. We kept to the legal waters and landed a number of shorts in the Striped Bass department to start. With persistence we did manage a nice keeper Striped Bass. Later in the evening our enthusiastic anglers lost quite a few hooks to some voracious Bluefish. Quality Knothead Sea Bass, chewing on live eels made up for the lack of striper action . Crew and Captain are starting to believe in the myth of the Striped Bass Unicorn. The hunt continues Friday October 11th, Saturday October 12th and a special Full Moon Striped Bass Fishing trip on Sunday October 13th. Dennis Chach of…

Sat Oct 5 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports a good day of fishing on the Viking Starship. We tried close to the island to start, but the drift was to fast. We headed offshore and it started out as a slow pick of Porgies & SeaBass, but it got better as the day went on and everyone had their limits….
