Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Captain Steven Sr. reports another fantastic trip on the Viking Star. We had a meeting before leaving the dock with all the passengers and crew, we all decided together knowing the wind was not in our favor, blowing 25-30 kts., to stay a little closer to shore. For the first half day we fished the wrecks and the ledges South of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. We had a slow pick of Cod some giant Sea Bass. We put a decent catch together by the end of the day, but weren’t satisfied with that. The weather was improving and expectations for a perfect day of fishing had Captain Steven steering the Viking Star to an area which he was hoping the fishing would prove good. Capt Steven Jr reports a slow start in this morning with rougher than predicted seas, on the Viking Fivestar. Our anglers were happy to be aboard our premium charter boat. We managed to put together a good catch of Porgies, Sea Bass, and Bluefish. There was no pool today. Our next half day fishing trip will be Friday, October 11.

Captain Jerry reports an encouraging trip on the Viking Starship Saturday night. We had wonderful weather and the water temperature is dropping. A slow tide and a drift not quite fast enough was a challenge to our anglers. We kept to the legal waters and landed a number of shorts in the Striped Bass department to start. With persistence we did manage a nice keeper Striped Bass. Later in the evening our enthusiastic anglers lost quite a few hooks to some voracious Bluefish. Quality Knothead Sea Bass, chewing on live eels made up for the lack of striper action . Crew and Captain are starting to believe in the myth of the Striped Bass Unicorn. Capt Dave reports good fishing on the Viking Starship. We got close to the island in the calm water and had Big Scup and a lot of SeaBass. The pool winner was Howard Hawkins from Teaneck, NJ with a 2.7 lb Porgy. The trip is cancelled for tomorrow due to the gale force winds expected.

Sun Sept 29 to Mon Sept 30 Capt Steven Jr reports another great trip offshore with 19 Yellowfin, 1 Albicore and a few Mahi caught. We started off on the troll and had a few smaller Tuna and one around 60 lbs. The night chunk bite started off slow but by 2am we started a pick that turned into a non stop bite until we pulled the anchor to go home. We had a couple smaller Yellows, but most were 60-80 lbs which sent the guys home with a pile of meat. Fishing is still really good if you can get a group of guys together for a charter now is the time! We have open dates for charters in October so give us a call for all trip info and bookings! Captain Jerry reports the fishing this afternoon on the Viking Star was not quite as good as on the AM trip, but still outstanding. We had a number of anglers that had never fished before and they got to go home with some fine fish. We sailed East of the Montauk Lighthouse and had some nice drifts with good sized Porgies and some big fat Sea Bass. The pool winner this afternoon was Robert Caffiero of Fresh Meadows NY with a 5.25 pound Sea Bass. Remove  

Captain Dave reports almost perfect conditions on the Viking Starship today.  We drifted most of the day and anglers had fish on the line almost continuously.  A mixed bag of quality  Sea Bass, large Scup,  Bluefish and  even a few keeper Striped Bass.  First place in the pool went to Julio Goerra with a 3.8 pound Scup.  Second place in the pool went to Frank DeLuca of Staten Island NY with a 15.5 pound Bluefish.
