Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Fri Dec 9 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a tough day of fishing today on the Viking Star. The raging full moon tide, along with strong wind, and dirty water made for poor weather conditions for fishing. We did pretty good on the SeaBass with a few nice sized in the mix, but the Porgies just did not seem to be biting. We did managed to get 3-4 cod fish on the boat today, but overall it was rough fishing. The winner of the only pool on the boat today was Jeff Lin from Queens with a 2.3 lb Porgy. We are unfortunately cancelled tomorrow on our 5am Block Island Porgies and SeaBass due to poor weather, but our looking to get out again on Sunday, December 11th.

Thurs Dec 8 – Coxes Cod & Sea Bass

Capt JR reports a good day on the Viking Star. Sea Bass fishing was absolutely fantastic with sizes ranging from medium to jumbos. There were a few Cod on every drop, but it was a bit difficult to get to them with all the Sea Bass around. The Cod pool winner was Brian Khan from Deer Park, NY with a 9 lber. The Sea Bass pool winner was Simon Choi from New York City with a 5 1/2 lber. We will be sailing on Thursday’s through the end of December for this trip. You can book online at vikingfleet.com or give us a call at 631-668-5700.

Thurs Dec 8 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports another decent day of fishing on the Viking Superstar. Fishing has been consistent with a decent catch and a lot of action. Everywhere we went was a good mix of Porgies and Sea Bass. We are starting to see the winter fish move in with some Pollock and about a dozen Cod. The winner of both pools was Mr. Yiu from Brooklyn, NY with a 2 3/4 lb Porgy and a 5 lb Pollock. The only trip sailing tomorrow is Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass at 5AM on the Viking Star. The office will open at 4am for check in and ticket sales.

Tue Dec 6 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports another fine day of fishing on the Viking Star. It was a very solid mix of Porgies and Sea Bass with more Porgies than we have been seeing lately. The Porgies were mostly in the large size range. We also had about 1/2 dozen Cod. There was no pool today. The 5AM – Block Island Porgy & Sea Bass trip on the Viking Superstar and the 5AM – Blackfish and Sea Bass trip on the Viking Star are cancelled for tomorrow.

Capt Dave reports a decent day of fishing on the Viking Superstar today despite the poor weather. We had our mix of Porgies and SeaBass everywhere we stopped, but it was difficult to hold our spot. When the weather started to settle we had some good fishing with some nice sized SeaBass coning up. We did have a few Cod on the boat today as well. There was only one pool today and that went to Julio Alberto Lopez from Brentwood, NY with a 3.1 lb Porgy. Tomorrow’s weather looks gorgeous an we will definitely be sailing again at 5 am for our Block Island Porgies and SeaBass.

Fri Dec 2- Blackfish & SeaBass

Capt JR reports a very good day of fishing today on the Viking Star. The SeaBass fishing today was excellent, we had SeaBass from keepers to jumbos upwards of 5 lbs coming up all around the boat. Lots of action with the SeaBass bite, but not as hot today on the Blackfish. We had a handful keepers, but nothing spectacular. The SeaBass pool winner went to Thomas Berke from Kings Park, NY with a 5.5 lb fish. The Blackfish pool winner went to Miquel Rodriguez from New York, NY with an 8 lb fish. We are cancelled tomorrow due to gale force winds, but we will be sailing again on Sunday, December 4th at 5am.

Fri Dec 2- Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass

Capt Dave reports excellent fishing today on the Viking Superstar. The SeaBass fishing today was some of the best it has been all year, the bite was non-stop with SeaBass up to 6 lbs. The SeaBass were biting their heads off today to the point where it made it difficult to pick through to catch the Porgies. Nonetheless we had a good amount of Porgies and easily our limit with the SeaBass along with 3-4 Cod on the boat. We did not do a pool on the boat today. We are cancelled tomorrow due to gale force winds, but we will be sailing again on Sunday, December 4th at 5am.

Capt Dave reports an excellent day of fishing today on the Viking Star. Despite the rainy conditions today we sailed with a light crowd and had ourselves some excellent fishing. We had a mix of sizes, from just keeper Porgies and SeaBass to jumbo sized and everywhere in between. We had some nice sized SeaBass up to 5 lbs on the boat along with at 10 Cod fish, even with the small number of people. We did also find some Mackerell still around and only a few dog fish biting, Overall a really great day of fishing. The Porgy pool winner went to Tony Kim from Queens, NY with a 3.9 lb Porgy. Unfortunately, our 5am Block Island Porgy and SeaBass trip tomorrow (Thursday, December 1st) is cancelled along with our Coxes Ledge Cod and SeaBass trip due to poor…
