Night Striped Bass Jig & Eel
Capt Ant reports a half n half bass trip last night. Half awful, half insane. We started jigging at the end of the ebb and it was slow. Few blues, few scup but not much action. Sat thru the slack and finally had some flood, nada. We made a move and it paid off for those who took our advice. We had an hour of chaos that landed beautiful moo cow linesiders. Nicole Cook had her limit, chris Luke and Sam each had mid 30lbers. Gary Bigfish Young also had one in the 30s. But the King of the night was 11 year old RJ DelPercio. First the young bassmaster landed a 26lber. He said it was just to heat up the gears in his reel to prepare for what came next. A five minute Behemoth Battle ensued. At one point I think both RJs feet left the deck as the beast peeled drag. He just kept at it slow and steady until the mammoth white belly glistened under the lights of the mighty Starship. One swipe of the gaff and young, yet now experienced RJ had his first Behemoth Rock Slob at 45lbs!!!!
