Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Tue Nov 8

Rusty Belly – Viking Fivestar Capt Steven Jr reports that we sailed with light crowd and put together a decent catch today on the Viking Fivestar. The black fishing had slower action then we saw on our last trip. But by mid day everyone had their limit of black fish with a couple fish around 8 lbs. Then we shot offshore to go sea bassing the bite was slower than it has been. We checked a lot of spots and only found a few fish here and there. We had a big ground swell from the east which seemed to effect the fishing. Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Capt Dave reports a very difficult day of porgy fishing today. When we had a lot of action the porgies were just keeper size, but when we got into…

Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Captain Dave reports an okay day despite the rough conditions with high seas and strong winds. We picked through porgies and sea bass and also had a catch of some cod and bluefish. The dogs were nearly unbearable, but we drilled it out and everyone had a pale or two of porgies and a handful of nice sized sea bass. The pool winner was Terrence Persaud from Brooklyn, NY with a 2.4 lb porgy.

Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Capt Dave reports a tough day on Viking Starship.  We spent the morning searching, while catching small fish.  Eventually, we found a nice pile of fish with decent sized porgies and a few cod and sea bass mixed in.  There were less dogfish today but by afternoon the…

Block Island Bottom Cod/Sea Bass/Blackfish – Viking Fivestar Capt Steven Jr. reports that we had another good day of fishing on our Block Island bottom trip. Seabassing remains very strong with lots of quality fish coming up. We managed a handful of cod along with some scup in the mix. The black fishing was nothing better then it has been locally with only a couple big fish coming up and a couple shorts. The water is still warm in the tog areas and we are still seeing the small scup and seabass in there as well. Hopefully the togging improves soon but everyone still went home with a good pile of fish. Block Island Cod and Sea Bass – Limited Passenger Capt Steven Sr. reports a decent day of fishing on the Viking Star.  There were lots of dog fish…

Rusty Belly – Fivestar Capt Steven Jr reports another great day of fishing today! Black fishing was on fire with the first drop and easy limits were had all around within an hour of fishing! We then took a bumpy ride offshore and had another great  day of sea bassing!! In two drops everyone had their limit of LARGE and XL seabass. We had a couple more cod pop up today compared to yesterday. There were a few dogs around to bother us, but not enough to make us move. We have a couple spots open next Tuesday on our open boat trip, but the rest of the week is full! The following week we have some openings so give the office a call to get all the info on upcoming trips! Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea…

Block Island Bottom Cod, Sea Bass, & Blackfish – Viking Fivestar Capt Steven Jr. reports another good day of fishing on the Viking Fivestar! The seabass fishing was once again phenomenal! Tons of jumbos all around, easy limits of all fish, weighing in around 3 lbs or better with a bunch over 5 lbs. We didn’t find much as far as cod, which was surprising for the amount of area we fished.  But the seabass were so thick it was hard to keep a bait on the bottom for long. By mid day, we shot inshore to look for some black fish and only found a couple nice ones, a couple shorts and a lot more seabass we had to throw back. We are sailing this Thursday on a 30-50 mile wreck trip and we still have a couple spots…

Rusty Belly – Fivestar We had our first Rusty Belly trip of the season yesterday and we had a good day. We started off black fishing and had a good steady pick of fish on most drops with some big fished mixed in everywhere. Fishing was just fine, but not as good as we are used to up east there, but the water temp is still in the mid 60’s. By mid day everyone had their limit of black fish (except for Marty) and we headed offshore to look for cod and sea bass. We had phenomenal sea bass fishing with tons of double headers and all quality sized fish. We only had a hand full of cod mixed in with a few scup and we did have some dogs, but we never had to run from them. By the…
