Captain Steven Sr’s report from the 14th Annual Freeport Tuna Club 2 Day Fishing & Eating & Drinking Charter: Day one started out with a bit of a swell and a 35 man tangle- the largest ever witnessed by the Capt and crew! After getting the cobwebs out, it was a steady pick for much of the day with mostly small to medium goldens and quite a few blue lines as well. We’d have a good drift, attempt to do it again and the boat would drift a different direction. It seemed every 1st drop at a spot was the best. Overall, Day 1 produced about an average of 4 tile per person, with a mess of sexy hake, some cod, pollack, ling, a barrel and a beautiful tropical streamer bass caught by the powerful Chris Bellanzoni Jr. Bobby Hindeland…

38 Hour Tile/Hake Captain Steven Jr an overall good tile trip over the weekend! We had a slow start with some tough drifting conditions and very few fish coming up. But by mid morning the conditions improved and the tiles starting popping up. We had steady fishing for the remainder of the day with mostly tiles coming over the rail. On the last few drifts we did find some hake, pollack and around a dozen nice sized barrel fish. At the end of the day, everyone ended up with some fresh fish just in time for Easter dinner! Jose Ruiz was one of the high hook guys, with 7 tiles with a mess of hake and a barrel fish. 38 Hour Tile Express Capt Steven Jr reports a good trip out for our 38 hr trip aboard the Viking Star. We worked the canyon edges all day catching all sorts of creatures from the deep. In total we had 17 different species of fish landed including plenty of golden tiles, cod, pollack, hake, cusk, haddock, a few grey tiles, barrelfish, northern grouper, plus much more! It was very exciting dropping down to the bottom and never knowing what you would catch! Even Capt Anthony pulled up a very rare for this area 7 pound Glass-Eye Snapper! Tyler Quarismo had 7 golden tiles plus some other different species, and Bobby Kruger jigged up some nice golden tiles and other species! Everyone had a nice mess of deep water fish filets to take home, and some anglers who have never caught…

Local Cod Capt Carl reports a struggle on the cod grounds today. We did have a pre-dawn bite again, however it only lasted for about 20 minutes with a few anglers getting 3-4 keeper Cod out of it and some anglers getting no keeper Cod out of it. There was quite a few shorts in the mix too, but again, the flurry was short lived. The rest of the day saw a few cod here and there and a few pollack but not enough to go around. The dogs were again pretty vicious. Craig Bryan from Bayport, NY took first place with a 9 lb cod and Manuel Londado from Perth Amboy, NJ took second with a 7 pounder.

Weekend Schedule- March 7- March 9 After seeing good results this past weekend Captain Steven Sr has scheduled  a 38 Hr Tile express that will depart on Friday March 7 at 7pm and return on Sunday March 9 at 9am with a fare of $375. This trip with Captain Steven Sr at the helm  will sail on the Viking Starship and is limited to 30 guys. Reservations are highly recommended. The next trip for Local Cod will be sailing this weekend Saturday on both March 8 and Sunday March 9 aboard the Viking Star. The boat will depart the dock at 3AM and return at 3pm with a fare of $125 which includes bait. 24 Hour Tile Capt Steven Jr reports that they ended up with a good trip with a mix of deep water species. Although the tile didn’t bite as well as we were hoping, we had a good amount of wreck fish, barrel fish and hake to make up the action. We started off hitting some wrecks and found some good action for the first half of the day. Around mid day to early afternoon, we tried the tile grounds but were plagued with zero drift, making it impossible to cover any ground. At the end of the day we hit another wreck and and had another little shot of wreck fish and the pool winning tile. Capt Carl reports another decent day on the local Cod grounds. As soon as we anchored up in the dark we had the Cods coming over the rail! We had them coming pretty good and very steady with some double headers, some pollack, and some ling mixed in too. There were a lot of short cod also mixed in and they were released to fight another day. The Cod bit good right until a little after sun up, then things quieted down. Once the Cod stopped biting, the dogs started biting and they continued to bite for the rest of the day everywhere we went with just a Cod here and there. Local Cod Capt Carl reports an overall decent day of fishing today. We had warm weather and calm seas and a boat load of anxious anglers. Our first drop saw loads of ling coming up all around the boat, with just a few cod and pollack. Then things turned for the worse with dogs attacking us everywhere, until the last drop which made the day! We had solid Cod coming up all around the boat with lots of double headers. The savage bite only lasted about 15 minutes though, and things got quiet again, so we made some drifts and picked a few more Cod before the day was done. The cod were nothing big, with shorts in the mix, but everyone got a couple keepers out of it so we ended up ok for the day. 8 year old…

Local Cod Capt Carl reports a tough day on the cod grounds. The morning started off painfully slow, with nothing but sculpin coming up for the first couple of hours. Finally, later on in the morning, we tried a couple different zones and had a couple decent shots of cod and ling, but not quite enough to spread around the full boat of anglers. John Brooks from Huntington, NY took first place with a 12.5 lb cod and Mike Derby Jr from Brooklyn, NY took second with a 10 pounder.
