Montauk Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Captain Dave reports an okay day of fishing today. It was a tough start to the morning and it was a slow go. We searched around a bit and found a nice pile of porgies all medium to large fish. We also made a sea bass drop and had tons of sea bass coming over the rail. Today’s pool winner was Phillip Brown of Teaneck, NJ with a 2.5lb porgy.

Half Day Fishing – PM Capt Dave G Reports a good afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Stariper. We had some keeper fluke and lots of jumbo sea bass and porgies. The bite lasted all afternoon, from the first drift to the last. The pool winner was Johnny Diez of Manhattan with a nice 5lb fluke.

Whale Watching July 9 2017 Whales, dolphins, sunfish, and a sea turtle. What a day we had! An amazing trip-even better than last week’s. We saw 11 fin whales, 500 dolphins, a loggerhead turtle and lots of action and pelagic birds. We were headed to a spot around 15 nautical miles away but began to find whales closer. Our first whales were a cow/calf pair with the calf logging (sleeping) at the surface and the mother was searching for food. This pair we had seen a week earlier 10 miles to the southwest. The calf was logging (sleeping) just under the surface. After a while with them, we headed further out and found another cow/calf pair that were staying close to each other as we would expect because the calf was small and young, diving together, swimming together. Montauk Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a very good day of fishing today! It was a beautiful day on the water today, we started really close to the lighthouse and we had a slow steady pick of nice big porgies. The tide ran and we worked our way more east and had excellent action with mixed size porgies and a ton of huge sea bass. Everyone had their limit of sea bass. All in all, we had good action with lots of double headers coming over the rail. Today’s first place pool winner was Neptal Trasporte of the Philippines with a nice 3lb porgy and in second place was Nelson Hernandez of Bay Shore with a nice big 4.5lb sea bass.
