Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Sun Dec 22 -Block Island Mixed Bag

Capt Dave reports a slower day than hoped on the Viking Starship. Good sailing weather but a light bite all day. Our anglers today caught lots of Cunner and Ling. We did have a handful of Cod, the last of the Porgies were brought aboard and some Whiting. Most of our anglers went home with some nice fish for the holidays. Nick Argyriou of Astoria Queens won the daily pool with a 6.3 pound Cod. We sail tomorrow, Monday Dec 23rd. We will be closed on Tuesday the 24th, Wednesday the 25th and Thursday the 26th. We will resume Block Island Mixed Bag trips on Friday the 27th. All the Captains, crew and staff at the Viking Fleet wish our friends and customers a wonderful holiday.

Sat Dec 21 – Block Island Cod and Sea Bass – Viking Fivestar

Christmas COD!!!! Capt Steven Jr reports that the Cod showed up just in time for Christmas! We had an excellent day with steady action for most of the day with the Cod and quite the mixed bag of Ling, Pollock, Whiting, Scup, Cunners and a couple of Seabass! Everyone went home with a nice pile of meat for the holidays. Four guys on board managed their limit of 10 keeper cod each and most other guys ranged from 3-8 cod a man! Things are looking good for a productive cod season in 2020! We will have trips going throughout the winter on the Viking Fivestar and the Viking Star. Private charter dates and open boat trips available. Give us a call at the office (631)668-5700 or check the website for all trip info and schedule updates! vikingfleet.com

Sat Dec 21 – Block Island Mixed Bag

Capt Dave reports a slow day on the Viking Starship. We stayed by Block Island today and had about a dozen Cod with about twice the amount of throwbacks. We also had Perch, Ling, a handful of SeaBass and a lot of Cunners that bit very well. No Porgies today. We are looking to try again tomorrow and go further east. The pool winner today was Lucas Wrczak from New York with an 8 lb Cod. Holiday Schedule: The office will be closed and we will not have any fishing trips on Tuesday Dec 24th, Wednesday Dec 25th and Thursday Dec 26th to celebrate Christmas.

Mon Dec 16- Block Island Mixed Bag

Captain Dave reports a slow day on the Viking Starship. We started out near Block Island and were not happy with the bite. We sailed East and had some better luck. The water was very dirty from recent storms. Our anglers had a lot of missed bites and light bites and drop-offs. We did manage a handful of Porgies, some Sea Bass and some smaller Cod than we have been seeing. Plenty of Ling and Whiting at every drop. No trip tomorrow due to increasing winds and low visibility. Weather looks favorable for later in the week and over the weekend.

Mon Dec 16 – Schedule Update

Tomorrow’s weather does not look too nice, so we will be cancelling our Daily Block Island Mixed Bag fishing trip, but we WILL BE SAILING on Wednesday, December 18 at 5AM aboard the 140ft Viking Starship. We hope to see you then! Also, looking ahead, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday December 20, 21, and 22 look like they will be beautiful days as well! Sun Dec 15 – Schedule Update

Capt Dave is excited to be going fishing tomorrow on the Viking Starship. The weather looks favorable, light winds and diminishing seas, and the fishing has been good. A real mixed bag …. Porgy, Sea Bass, Cod, Pollock, Ling, Cunners, Whiting and Bluefish are all to be had this month and all caught on the Viking Starship. Office opens at 4AM and we leave the dock at 5AM for a full day of fishing.

Fri Dec 13 – Block Island Mixed Bag

Capt Carl reports a very very tough day of fishing on the Viking Starship. The Southeast wind was much stronger than forecasted making for some big swells. That combined with the Full Moon tide made things very difficult. We made a lot of drops with barely anything to show for it. Steven Trifari from Glen Oaks, NY took the pool with a 9 lb Cod. The weather this weekend looks like we will stay tied to the dock, but we are looking forward to the next nice day (possibly Monday) so we can get back out there! We will keep you posted!!

Wed Dec 11 – 30 to 50 Mile Wreck – Viking Fivestar

Capt Steven Jr reports a very tough day of fishing the wrecks. We started deeper and had blizzard like conditions. We managed a few big SeaBass, but we didn’t have the numbers we have been seeing. We worked our way inshore where there were better conditions, but slower fishing. Overall a rough and tough day.
