Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Capt Jerry reports that our last tuna trip was a successful one! We saw our best night bite of the whole season! During the day we trolled up a bunch of nice Mahi Mahi. Then that night we had a lot of bites and landed a bunch of albacore and lost just as many, so we had plenty of bites. We also caught more Mahi at night, released 2 swordfish, and lost a giant swordfish after a 2 hour battle. It was very promising, and we have room on our last trip, which is a 4 day full moon Big Eye and Swordfish Special departing on Monday Oct 22. Jump on for your last shot offshore! Night Striped Bass Saturday Oct 6 Sorry for the late report but Captain Jerry turned right around and went Tuna fishing so we had to wait for the report. Bass fishing was FANTASTIC and we landed 40 keepers. We are very excited to get back out there this weekend. First place pool winner was Frank Lyons from East Islip, NY and second place pool winner was Pete Ancesty from Smithtown, NY. We are sailing on Friday and Saturday at 6pm until Midnight. Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass Capt Dave reports good fishing despite the windy conditions. We stayed in the deep water offshore where we had two anchor drops. On the first drop we had solid Porgy fishing with plenty of Jumbo Scup. On the second drop we had a mix of Porgies and SeaBass in the 5 to 6 lb range. We also had a couple of Cod. The first place pool winner was Lilly from Equador with a 3 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Oliver from Valley Stream, NY with a 15 lb Cod.

1/2 Day Fishing – AM Capt Dave reports a slow morning on the Viking Stariper. We had breezy conditions and the fishing was tough. The pool winner was Cee Calloway from Maryland with a Blowfish.

Sun Oct 8

1/2 Day Fishing – PM Capt Dave G reports a very very good afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Stariper. We caught lots of porgies, sea bass and also a triggerfish. The pool winner was John Herr of NY city with a 6.3lb Triggerfish.

Block Island Porgy and Seabass Trip Capt. Dave reports very good fishing with large porgies some keeper sea bass and 4 keeper cod fish. The first place pool winner was Anthony Baily, from White Planes NY with a 4.5lb porgy, and the second place pool winner was Julian Buittell, from Farmington NY with a 11lb cod fish.

AM Half Day Fishing Trip Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Stariper. We caught plenty of Montauk jumbo porgies this morning along with some beautiful sea bass. The pool winner was Sharon Gary with. sea bass from West Islip N.Y.

Sat Oct 6

Capt Dave G reports a very good afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had fish biting all afternoon today. We ended up with a nice catch of porgies, sea bass, bluefish, a striped bass and a false albacore. The pool winner was Jula Q from East Hampton, NY with a 4.2 lb SeaBass.

Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass Capt Dave reports a fantastic day on the Viking Starship. We stayed close to the island today where we had nice size Porgies with SeaBass mixed in. It was so good we didn’t have to make any moves and everyone came home happy with their limits of fish….

1/2 Day Fishing-AM Capt Dave G reports a very good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. The bite was on from the beginning of the trip until the end. We ended up with a mixed bag of porgies, sea bass and a couple bluefish. The pool winner was Kyle Costantini from Lindenhurst, NY with a 4.2 lb Porgy.

Capt Dave G reports a good afternoon of fishing today in breezy conditions aboard the Viking Star. We had a small crowd but caught plenty of porgies and bluefish. We also had a couple of fluke which were released unharmed and a false albacore. There was no pool on the boat today.
