1/2 Day Fishing – PM Capt Dave G reports a good afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had pleasant breezy conditions and caught lots of fluke, big sea bass and big porgies. The pool winner was 6 year old Mason Lupes from Wantaugh, NY with a 5.6 lb Sea Bass.

Sunday Aug 26 Whale watching Humpbacks, Fin whales, and Minke whales again Our 21st consecutive trip with whales started with a breaching humpback near Montauk.  This young humpback, like so many others showed signs of entanglement.  We headed to another area (about 11 nm out) where we found 2 whales that we believe were fin whales, but couldn’t get good enough views to confirm absolutely. On our way back in, we found another breaching, flipper slapping humpback and a minke whale. Totals 2 Humpback Whales 2 Fin whales 1 Minke whale 12 Cory’s Shearwaters 1 Scopoli’s Shearwater 4 Great Shearwaters

Montauk Jumbo Porgies & Knothead SeaBass Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starship. We had a good catch of decent size Porgies by the lighthouse even with the full moon tide. We then headed east to the Sea Bass grounds where the bite was off, but we ended up with a limit of nice size SeaBass up to 4 lbs. We also had a couple of Fluke. The pool winner was Tai Zhao from Manhattan, NY with a 3.9 lb Porgy.

AM Half Day Fishing Capt Dave G reports a good morning of fishing aboard the Viking Star. The trip started slowly, with only a few fish caught on the first couple drifts. But when the tide eased up, the bite really started! We ended up with a real nice catch of keeper fluke, sea bass and porgies. The first place pool winner was Kevin Moran of Palisades Park, NJ with a 8.3lb fluke.  The second place pool winner was Taiyu Jin of East Northport, NY with a 6.6lb fluke.

PM Half day Fishing Trip Capt Dave G reports a good afternoon of fishing aboard the Viking Star. We had lots of action all trip long with everyone catching fish. We ended up with a mixed bag of fluke, sea bass, porgies and a couple bluefish. The pool winner was Rachel Osipowich from Mastic Beach NY with a 7.5lb fluke.

Montauk Lighthouse Jumbo Porgies and Knothead Sea Bass Captain Dave reports an excellent morning of fishing today aboard the Viking Starship. We made a few drifts first thing right by the point and got our fill of mostly nice size porgies. Then we made our way around to do some sea bass fishing. We had to pick through some of the smaller ones, but everyone ended up with their limit of trophy size sea bass, from 4-5lbs. We also had some fluke and blues in the mix. Today’s first place pool winner was Steve from Jersey City with a nice 4.5lb porgy and in second place was Jims Quan of Brooklyn with a nice 5lb sea bass.

AM Half Day Fishing Trip Capt Dave G reports a very good morning of fishing today aboard the Viking Star. We had fish coming up all around the boat during the entire trip. We ended up with a nice catch of keeper fluke, nice size sea bass and plenty of porgies. The pool winner was Rob Moore from NYC with a 6.75 lb fluke.
