Viking FiveStar Private Tuna Charter We just returned late yesterday from a quick overnight trip to the edge and returned with a pair of nice big eyes! We got under way Monday afternoon and arrived in the deep just as the sun was setting. we got the lures in for about an hour and grabbed a small yellow fin. We then set up on a drift for the night with low expectations being that there hasn’t been much of a night bite yet this year. We did have a decent sword fish on for a little while but ended up pulling the hook when it got close to the boat. prior to sunrise we got all the lures out and started a slow troll and with in 5 minutes we had a knock down. Shortly after that two rods doubled…

Block Island Behemoth Trophy Hunt 2013 Viking MOO COWNTER Capt. Ant has one simple word for last nights Behemoth Bass trip to Block……..MOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! It was sick, plain and “udderly” simple as our first 10 drifts produced 5, yes 5 Block Island Behemoth Bass over 40lbs.  By no means was it a bloodbath, however this trip is about the Trophy of a lifetime and there were quite a few happy herders on the Starship when we hit the dock at 4a.  We tried a different rock pile last night and it paid off big time.  I still can’t believe Joe “Cowmis” Khamis.  Joe was last years Derby winner and all he has done this year is continued his slaughter of Moo Cow Linesiders.  Not one, not two, but three fish over 30lbs tonight. Not one, but 2 fish over 46lbs tonight….

Thursday August 1

Night Striped Bass Capt. Ant reports an EXCELLENT night of fishing on both jigs and eels.  We started the night with the last of the flood and found birds working and fishing rolling, we nailed a few bass, had a few shorts, some scup, 2 fluke and many Monster Blues.  With the rain came a quick sunset so we switched to eels for the last ounce of flood and nailed one more and dropped a couple.  The ebb never really got going though we picked up one up inside but it was slow for a an hour or so.  Then we stumbled upon a pile that lit the screen up.  Game on…bass and big blues .  All the bass were healthy going 20-25lbs with our biggest at 28.  We had fish on our last 7 drifts, a great way to…

Wednesday July 31

Half Day PM Captain Joe reports that fishing was good this afternoon on the fluke grounds we also had a nice mess of  scup and sea bass. The pool winner was Ben Greenspan from Glen Cove, NY with a 4.3 lb fluke. Flukasaurus Cod Wrecks Cultivator Shoals Capt Steven Sr reports they started out fishing on a deep water wreck on our way to fluke grounds and it was very good with market cod 5-7lb fish with the largest at 21.8lbs. After a few hours of cod fishing coolers had a good start to them. We went off to fluke fishing but fluke were hunkered down because of the rare species of dog fish. There were doggies everywhere. We would make a drift catching 5-6 fluke but the dogs would find us. There were dogs from 10 inches to 3…

Friday July 26

Block Island Behemoth Trip Capt. Ant reports an excellent fishing trip across the pond on Friday night.  We started the night with slack tide and found Behemoths immediately except they were Behemoth Bluefish and they were stacked solid.  The first hour was spent with rods bent in half with the 15-18lb Choppers…just like bluefishing of old.  Once we started drifting around 1.4 knots we had our first two bass of the night, the first one would turn out to be the pool winning Moo Cow and a true Behemoth at 43.2lbs caught by Justin Cannarelli of Center Moriches.  Once we got over 2 kts, the bite died other than a 29″ fish by George “Pulitzer” Jehn.  We made a wiggle and found a mix of bass and blues, this piece yielded a 29.6lber among other 15-25lb fish.  But again the…

Thursday July 25

Night Striped Bass Capt, Ant reports another tough night of weather put a damper on the bass assault although we were able to get a Moo Cow out of the slop.  We battled ENE winds 20-25kts all night against the screaming flood producing a very slow and abnormal drift for the summer time.  We had nothing on the jigs, most likely because we started with the slack.  We switched to eels at the start of the tide and had a couple and that was it until the tide started to ease.  We had one very good drift at the end of the night that produced the pool fish caught by Erica Fiohr from Lindenhurst, NY 36.2lbs Chris Luke added a 27.8lber to take second followed closely by Jonny “Jesus of the Elbow” Rewinski with a 25.7lber.  Definitely tough fishing conditions…
