Wed Jan 29 – Winter Cod – Viking Star
Capt Carl reports a tough grind on the Cod grounds today. Our morning bite never materialized and we only got a handful of keeper Cod out of it. The rest of the day saw one keeper here and one there so it was a tough go. High hook had 2 keeper Cod, and some guys got 1 for the dinner table, and some guys had none. There is still plenty of bait in the area so we hope to see some improvement this Friday on the trip. The weather forecast looks very good! We are cancelled for tomorrow Thursday, Jan 30th.

Capt Steven Jr reports a tough go at it today never getting a good bite going. We only had a handful of fish in the early hours when the bite has been best for us. The rest of the day remained slow with the Cod, but we ended with a load of big Cunners. High hook was Nasty Nessel of Montauk with 3 Cod and 2 Pollock. Weather is going to keep us at the dock for the next few days, but we will be back at it as soon as the weather allows.
Fri Jan 24 – Winter Cod – Viking Star
Capt Steven Sr reports a beautiful day with a slow bite. We put the effort in and put some fish on the boat. We started out in the deep water where we have been catching the Cod, but we had dogfish. We hunted around there for awhile and only had a few fish. We moved to the shallower water and drifted. We found Cod and Bergalls and worked the area awhile picking some on every drift. After that died out we moved even shallower and anchored. We had a good shot of Cod and Bergalls. When the wind changed from NW to NE it went dead. It wasn’t the best, but every one enjoyed the day. The first place pool winner was Lee Pluhowski from Montauk with an 8 lb Cod. The second place pool winner was Dave Keller from…

COD!!! Capt Steven Jr reports a slammer morning with Cod up to 30lbs! Once again the bite was over early and the rest of the day we never found anything to work on. While they were biting the group of ten guys managed their limit of nice Cod and a few shorts. Bill Bennett got his new personal best Cod at 30.5 lbs. Tomorrow looks like our last day for a while with the weekends blow coming, but we are keep our eye on it for next week and hopefully we can get back at it.
Thurs Jan 23 – Winter Cod – Viking Star
Capt Steven Sr reports a slow day on the Viking Star. We had some Cod in the morning, but we couldn’t get them to stay with us. We tried to grind it out, but unfortunately we didn’t have a lot to show for it. The first place pool winner was Justin McCann from Staten Island, NY with a 10 lb Cod. The second place pool winner was Fernando Wong from Queens, NY with a 7 lb Cod. Honorable mention goes to John with a 20 lb Cod. He was unfortunately not in the pool!
