Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Half Day Fluke

Saturday July 13

Flood Chaser Striped Bass Capt Ant reports that we grinded out a catch last night on Flood Chaser Bass, but it was grueling. It seemed every drift started with a fish and followed with a dud. the elbow area was overtaken with gorilla blues and after having only one bass where we bailed them on Thursday, we moved on. Next spot we had one then three, then 0, 0, 0… We tried about 7 other rocks and again 1 here 1 there… On our last drop we had a beauty, the pool winner, a MOO COW LINESIDER caught by Donna Dersch from Syosset, NY. It weighed in at 38lb 17oz! JB Breitstone from Long Beach NY took second place with a 30lb 7oz striper. Overall we caught a fillet a fare. Mike Sadowski had his limit to 20lbs. Half Day…

Monday July 8

Monday July 8 Sunset Stripers Capt. Ant reports a very successful Sunset Striper trip…we saw the sunset, we caught some Stripers!!!!  We hit the lighthouse and only caught a couple of rats on the first 3 drifts but we didn’t quite have the tide so we ventured on to try a spot we haven’t been to in awhile.  Bust…luckily it was only 10 minutes away so we headed back.  Once again fish were everywhere, from top to bottom on the machine and swirling on the surface and once again they were tough to catch.  3 on the first drift, none on the second, 2 on the third…uggh!!!  We had a couple fluke come up including a 6lber which had a 30lb Striper literally hanging on it’s tail.  At one point we had a pod of bass right under the pulpit…

Friday July 5

Block Island Behemoth Trophy Hunt- UPDATED REPORT We got to our honey hole with a trickle of flood tide, but plenty of breeze left to help move the Starship.  After about 10 passes all around the rock, we had a whole lot of nothing to show for it.  No bait, not tide, no fish.  We moved on from there and explored a couple different areas but again, even when marking fish, they just would not bite.  We finally got a drift, around 1.2 kts so we went back to the “Rock”.  Drifting due east we got our first bite, then second, then third.  3 fish, 3 slobs feeding on the slow moving water. Every fish was green as could be.  Danny Wes had the largest at 48lb 8 oz and I swear it fought with the energy of a schoolie…

Thursday July 4

Thursday July 4 Captain Ant reports an OUTSTANDING night of bassing.  We caught consistently the entire night starting with jigging 18-25lb bass in the black fog.  It wasn’t a slam but each drift produced 1-3 keepers on the jigs, and these fish were green giving the angers a fight to remember.  With the fog at hand it got dark quick so we switched to the eels and picked the rest of the night with decent size fish.  We had a few anglers catch their limit and/or catch their first bass ever.  James and James (dad and son) whacked the two biggest fish of the night with younger James taking home the pool. Just a reminder, we head off to Block Island tonight on the overnight Behemoth Hunt and have two trips scheduled for tomorrow night with the Flood Chaser leaving…
