Flukasaurus Cod Wrecks Cultivator Shoals
Capt Steven Sr reports they started out fishing on a deep water wreck on our way to fluke grounds and it was very good with market cod 5-7lb fish with the largest at 21.8lbs. After a few hours of cod fishing coolers had a good start to them. We went off to fluke fishing but fluke were hunkered down because of the rare species of dog fish. There were doggies everywhere. We would make a drift catching 5-6 fluke but the dogs would find us. There were dogs from 10 inches to 3 ft. We had no tide, no wind and flat calm conditions. By the end of day one we had a good shot of cod and a little mess of fluke. We did manage a 11.5lb fluke and a couple 7-8lbers. On day two we started in our old favorite jigging grounds and it was good steady cod fishing. The bow did very very well with some guys catching up to 12-16 fish a piece. In just a few hours we were also given a gift from the old days- a 32lb halibut along with some pollack, haddock, nice green cod, and a outstanding whale show with 10-20 Humpback Whales bubble feeding all around the boat. By noon we headed west to Nantucket fluke grounds to make up for dog land the day before, and it was just fine. With every drift there was tons and tons of action with many keepers. An honorable mention goes out to Dave Duffy with a 11.5lb fluke and a 21.8lb cod. Tetito caught a 32.6lb halibut and peggie and Russell had 8 keeper fluke in just 4 drifts at the Nantucket grounds. All in all it was picture perfect weather except for some on and off fog. It was good fishing with a great group of ladies and gentlemen. Thanks to all that joined us captain Steven, director captain Dave, Chillin Dylan and steady Steve. The Pool Mr Dave Duffy from New Hampshire won the fluke and cod pools with a 11.3 fluke and a 21.2lb cod The edible pool was won by Mr Taso Tsiatis from Elmont, NY with a 32.1lb Halibut.
