2 Night Tuna LTD
Captain Carl reports an overall good trip on the Viking Star. We started off fishing on Friday night and we had a few bites and quite a few break offs in the rough conditions, but we landing a couple smaller yellowfin and a 75lb swordfish and we also had a 160lb giant swordfish. Once the sun came up, the weather got nice and we got on the troll and caught piles of mahi mahi! By 3pm we went back to chunking and very quickly started hooking up with the bigger model yellowfins and we continued to pick away at them all night landing a bunch and losing a bunch too. Also, Jim M caught himself a fat 130lb butterball Big Eye! Hisashi Omichi won the edible pool with a giant swordfish and Joseph Khamis won the tuna pool with an 80lb yellowfin (the big eye was not in the pool). Mr. Omichi was kind enough to share some swordfish with everyone aboard, and so everyone had tuna, mahi and swordfish to take home! Special mention goes out to James Katsaros who landed 3 yellowfin tuna between 60-75lbs and Nick Gangone who had the same. Overall a good trip with a nice canyon variety!
