Mon Oct 2 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a slow day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. Today was a slower day than it’s been in a while, the bite was very off. Fishing would be good for the first part of the drop and would slowly dissipate till we made our next drop. Porgies were still between medium…

Sun Oct 1 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a better day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. With the wind and swell starting to dissipate we had a bit better of fishing, but conditions were still on the rough side. There was definitely an overall improvement in the fishing today, but it was still a but of a struggle. We had Porgies in the medium to large range, as we’ve been seeing, still no real jumbo Porgies yet. Everyone had themselves a few SeaBass and we ended up with a quite a few Cod fish on the boat as well, up to 10 lbs. The first price pool winner went to Chi Lai from Portland, NY with a 2 1/2 lb. Porgy. The edible pool winner went to Aris Ventura from Manhattan with a 22 inch Cod fish. With better weather tomorrow we are…

Sat Sept 30 – Block Island Fall Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a tough day due to weather conditions on the Viking Starship. The fish were off the bite close to the island in the shallow water, so we had to head to the deep to find them. Everyone managed a bucket or so of Porgies and a few Sea Bass each. We also had a few Cod and a 1/2 dozen Striped Bass, two were in the slot. Trevor Whyte from New Jersey was the first place pool winner with a 2 1/2 lb Porgy. The edible pool winner was Ed Smith from NYC with a 14 lb Cod. We are definitely sailing tomorrow at 5AM. The office opens at 4AM for ticket sales.

Fri Sept 29 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a decent day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. Weather conditions were not as bad as they seemed to be and fishing improved from yesterday. We tucked our way in closer to the island and fished in the shallower water. We had a decent pick of medium and large Porgies and well as some large SeaBass. The Mackerell were biting again today as well, with a handful on the boat as well as a keeper Striped Bass. We did not have a pool on the boat today. We will be sailing tomorrow (Saturday, September 30th) for our Block Island Porgies and SeaBass. Tickets can be purchased online or at the window in the morning as long as we still have availibilty.

Thur Sept 28 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a pretty decent day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. After being blown in from the wind following Hurricane Ophelia, we were finally able to get back out on our first trip and had a better day of fishing than expected. Fishing today was more quality over quantity with a slow…

Fri Sept 22 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a good day on the Viking Starship. We picked up where we left off yesterday and had nice sized Porgies again with good sized Sea Bass mixed in. Limits were retained by all anglers. We also had a few Cod and Fluke today. Unfortunately none of the large Cod were in the…

Mon Sept 18 to Thurs Sept 21 – 3 Day TNT Ultra LTD

Our three day TNT trip on the Viking Star started out a little inconvenient with some windy conditions. However, we concentrated our efforts on the tuna grounds and spent the entire first day convincing the picky fish to bite. The fish were very line shy but we dropped down to light leaders and hooked a…

Thurs Sept 21 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports excellent fishing today on the Viking Starship. We started off our morning fishing some inshore spots and picked through lots of clouds of little porgies and a mix of seabass. We then worked our way offshore a bit into some deeper water where we got into some really nice fishing. There was plenty of action between large porgies, keeper seabass, and a lot of mackerell. Fishing was very steady today and we even had ourselves a couple of the false albacores. Overall a very good day of fishing, and we are sailing tomorrow, so come out before the weather comes in this weekend. The first prize pool winner went to Elric Jervis from the Bronx with a 2 3/4 lb. Porgy. The edible pool winner went to Ron Garvo on vacation from Santa Barbara, California with a…

Wed Sept 20 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports a pretty good day of fishing today on the Viking Starship. We had a lot of action all around with fish just about everywhere we dropped own. There were a lot more medium sized fish in the mix, not quite throwbacks, but nothing very big. SeaBass fishing was good, with fish of…

Tue Sept 19 – Block Island Jumbo Porgies & Knothead Sea Bass

Capt Dave reports great fishing today on the Viking Starship. There was a much better Porgy bite today. We caught well despite the rough conditions. It was good Sea Bass fishing as well. Plenty of both to be had today, but not much else to mention as far as edible species. The first place pool…
