Viking Fleet Fishing Reports

Montauk

Tuesday September 10

Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports another great day of fishing today. We headed to the west side and found a slew of porgies. We had some time to look for some sea bass, and although we found them, we had to pick through a lot to keep a few. But everyone managed to get a couple sea bass. We did have a couple fluke and bluefish, but it was mostly porgies today. Today’s pool winner was Lou with a 3lb porgy.

Saturday September 7

Night Striped Bass Capt. Ant reports all hope is not lost!!!!  After 2 weeks of slow fishing and psycho-therapy the Bass Gods smiled again, not just with fish, but with MOOOO Cows.  While not all fish were weighed we estimated 15 fish over 30lbs including 1 definite 40+ and one who was just as big but not weighed by customer request. We tried something different, hit a lucky fall jigging spot to start the night and we found some whopper choppers inhaling the eels.  Made a slight adjustment and it was game on.  7 drifts at a 3+ knot tide produce 19 total Bass, which by the last few weeks standards, awesome!!  Every fish was large, every fish put on a fight our anglers will remember forever…it was a perfect night with the exception of 2 break offs of even…

Friday Sept 6

Night Striped Bass Well I’m at a loss for words.  We changed zones and went to the east and picked a few and also had a bunch of blues but the bite continues to be a delicate one.  Perhaps the Bass Gods are evening the score for a terrific summer, all I know is the gray hairs are starting to outnumber the browns.  Happy for Martin Wellen Dowd who sterned it tonight and nailed a keeper.  “GMC” Jimmy had a few blues to 10lbs as did Jonny “Jesus of the Elbow” . Pool Winners were:John Springhorn from Patchouge, NY 23lbs Second place went to Mr Peter Helfrich from Stony Brook, NY 16lbs Half Day Fluke Pm Capt Ant reports a sensational afternoon of both fishing and weather.  After the morning blow things settled down and we found Fluke Sea Bass…

Thursday September 5

Night Striped Bass Capt Ant reports another slow night on the bass grounds however we did nail a beauty at 34.88lbs caught by Francis Mistresse of Lindenhurst N.Y wind against tide gave us a very slow drift all night and it was tough to cover any ground. Conditions for tonight will no doubt be better with wind with a new moon tide. fingers crossed! Half Day Fluke PM Captain Joe reports an okay afternoon of fishing. We didn’t do as well as we have done in the last couple days. It was wind against tide but we managed a decent catch of fluke, porgies and sea bass. Today’s pool winner was Angelo Demetroulakos of Brooklyn with a 4.9lb fluke. Half Day Fluke AM Captain Joe reports the morning started out good, but then the wind came up and the fishing…

Wednesday September 4

Half Day Fluke PM Captain Joe reports another excellent afternoon of fishing today. It was great action all afternoon with sea bass, porgies and lots of nice big fluke! Today’s pool winner was Betsey “Aunt Bee” Downey of Deer Park with a 9.1lb fluke. Block Island Jumbo Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports a great day of fishing today! It was a solid day from start to finish! Thankfully we were able to stay away from the dogs today and we sailed away with a really nice mix of porgies and sea bass. All in all it was a great day and we cant wait to go back out again tomorrow! Today’s first place winner was Scotland of Jersey City with a 3lb porgy, and in second was Chin of Chinatown with a 5lb bluefish.

Tuesday September 3

Block Island Porgies and Sea Bass Captain Dave reports an okay day of fishing. It was a slow start in the morning, and we had to move around a bit. Once we moved a little bit more west we were able to find some, and made a decent days catch. We had some nice sea bass, porgies and 3 keeper cod, but it was a bit difficult with all the dogs around. Today’s pool winner was Albert Eng of NJ with a 3lb porgy.

Monday Sept 2- Happy Labor Day!

Half Day Fluke PM Capt Ant reports fluking remained red hot in the afternoon. At one point we had 0.0kt drift- pretty much anchored by wind against tide and still bailed them. Congrats to Michael Mella from East Hampton NY who took first prize in the pool with a 6.2lber and our good friend Don Mitchell from Holtsville was a close second with a 5.8lber We also had a 65lb plus torpedo ray which was released to shock again! Half Day Fluke AM Capt Carl reports that fluke fishing on the Viking Starship today was SUPERB! Like all summer long, most people went home with lunch and dinner. What a FANTASTIC season of fluke fishing we’ve had on the Viking Fleet. The pool winner was Louis Speigel with a 6lbs fluke. We are still sailing DAILY at 8:30am or 1:30pm.

Sunday Sept 1

Sunday Striper Special To top of our weekend, our new Sunday 5-10 eel trip was a dud.  For the first time this year we went fishless.  We hit every spot under the sun, not even a blue fish.  We did have a few bites, seemed like bass bites as eels came up in one piece, but the way it’s been lately, those chances needed to be maximized but weren’t.  It seems the new moon brought on a day bite again so hopefully as we get on the other side the stronger night tides will get them back on the feed.  Its 9/2, history doesn’t lie, the fall run is close and soon the lull will be over. Full Day Porgies and Sea Bass Capt Dave reports yet another good day out porgy fishing. Once again we had nice quality…
